A pal who read my piece about humidors in winter was thoughtful enough to deliver me an Opus X along with two 72% Boveda gel-packs. Those packs are news to me.

He promised that putting two Boveda packs in there will get your humidor through three months in the winter up here, where our humidity can be quite low in winter. The packs don't activate until opened.

Just picked up a box of hand rolled Dominican cheroots in Key West. FRESH MADE!!! Did the last six right in front if me. CT wrapper. Ordered them and came back an hour later. I think I could live down here very easily.

Tom ...Seductively charming place, isn't it, at least until the hurricanes start rolling in. This year, they seem to be heading up the Atlantic coast, instead of in to the Gulf, although there is one storm forming now which might make it into the Gulf. Ohh, goody ....

I use something similar called Humidipack for my 12 string Taylor guitar. Keeps the guitar right at 40% RH while it's in the case. Makes a huge difference in playability.

72% gel packs are what we use to heal a dry guitar. Been around quite a while and are effective. After that 40-45%ers are the recommended variety.

Use an upright bass humidity insert along with the gel pack to modulate RH and you can get a very steady environment for your guitar all winter long without having to replace the packs.
