We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Why can't we all get along?

Chris Matthews appear to hope somebody will shoot Rush Limbaugh...with a CO2 cartridge? What? I find this disturbing, if not sick - if not incendiary. We have never said anything like that about anybody, and would never want to.


I guess dissent and principled disagreement is no longer the highest form of patriotism. Furthermore, I thought debate about ideas was a healthy, wonderful, American thing. Not when the Dems are in power, I guess.


I still wonder where all the hatred is coming from.

Barrister ... Democrats don't do "principled disagreement." Most of them don't even do debate, as it used to be described and taught back when I was a spring chicken.

Chris Matthews is a TWIT.

I wonder if Marianne is checking ancestry.com to ensure there is no relativity. MM's wonderful, fun-loving and thoughtful posts are full of wisdom and enough to convince me there isn't a geneological connection!

Why are liberal heads exploding over Limbaugh wanting a stake in an NFL team? Football is just a game for crying out loud. What greater objective am I missing here?

You should find it very sick. Matthews was referring to the way "Mister Big" died in the movie version of Live and Let Die. In that film, Bond shot Mister Big with a pellet full of compressed CO2, which vented inside Mister Big's body and blew him apart like an overinflated balloon. Which is an extremely unpleasant, not to mention extremely graphic, way to die.

Isn't it a crime for a person, especially one in a position to influence others, to incite others to perpetrate a crime - in this case murder?

All one would have to do is threaten or express a desire to see a certain public official dead and the FBI would be all over that individual.

Maybe someone knows more about the law on this matter than I do will comment.

Barrett, in most cases just talking, like Matthews was doing, is viewed as protected free speech. The only exception is if the subject of the conversation is the President. Then the Secret Service tends to get somewhat curious. If they decide there might be any serious intent present, they get downright disgruntled.

Garry, dear heart ... Please don't worry about a possible genetic connection between me and that twit Chris Matthews. Matthews is my husband's last name, not mine. Mine is Reeder, a family of teachers, social workers, and preachers, some of whom, like my father, are from the northeast [he was born in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts] My husband, however, is fifth generation Texan, southern born and bred, but really special anyway.

And thanks alot for the compliment. I'm really hungry for those.

I think Chris Matthews' geneology traces back to the small tribe the Vikings left behind to watch the chickens. Lief Matthews, Chris' grandpa, taught his spawn the secret of life through those chickens: If you're going to lay an egg, make it a big one; if you want attention, go about with your pecker spewing, "With a cluck cluck here, and a cluck cluck there, ...." Have your pecker out for the petty and sooner or later you will be rewarded with a thrill up your drumstick.

Why would Rush say anything about Savage? He has nothing to gain by it. Savage is exactly the kind of loudmouthed jerk who gives conservativsm a bad name, and tilting at a windmill besides. Britain is not bound by the US Constitution.

Savage serves the same purpose in the world as Ann Coulter - he defends the perimeter of free speech and straight speech and the mockery of PC. Like them or not, it's worth doing.

They like to make a living by mouthing off in public. Why not? They aren't strategic politicians, and do not mean to be.

Savage never claimed first amendment rights like some kind of ACLU victim. If you listened to the "loud mouth" you'd know this. But impune you must you ignorant fool. How about the idea that if UK bans Savage like some kind of terrorist for WORDS, then Rush will be next. Whaddya know, Rush ain't having it so easy or FAIR is he you ass?

Rush should say something because conservative talkers are facing the weight of nationsnow to silence them. In case you haven't noticed, Rush is under attack right now by the same forces- the Government/Media complex.

Have you ever heard the phrase "the enemy of my enemy is my friend"? Do you think it's wise for Rush to follow that doctrine at this point? You are damn naive if you think the people who want to silence conservatives will stop with the #1 guy.
