Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Socialized medicine update

Support hits new lows. Nobody wants this government mess. Just fix a few simple things, and all will be well.


Samuelson: It's just an exercise in ego gratification. No, it's worse than that: it's about power.


The cost? It's hidden in unfunded mandates for the states to pick up. They will just love that.


This loony, grandiose big government snafu is a train wreck waiting to happen, and Casey Jones is driving that train, high on cocaine. Better watch your speed.

1. Support hits new lows: I am gratified that Obama loses support every time he tells people what he actually wants to do. This seems to follow him on nearly all topics.
2. Exercise in ego: I'd be okay with politicians exercising ego with their own money. That's what Shriners do, help themselves feel better by supporting worthy causes. But politicians use my money and your money and the resources that should drive a healthy economy to exercise their egos.
3. The cost: will be buried under unfunded mandates to states, unfunded mandates to individuals and businesses, costs passed through insurance premiums.
