Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

What good is democracy?

What good is democracy if it doesn't give us the stuff I want? Sort-of from Thomas Friedman. A quote:



That's what you get with one-party democracy: a country run by a bunch of screaming, arguing Appalachian retards, all of whom get the same vote as Pulitzer Prize-winning opinion leaders. Say what you want about China, but they have sensible pre-screening rules to keep these divisive morons away from voting booths in the first place.

Any political pundit who aspires to be taken seriously by his readers should not, ever, refer to possible readers as 'retards,' even if said possible readers hail from "Appalachia." Friedman has removed himself thus from my reading list. I cannot waste any of the diminishing minutes in my life reading his thoughts on anything.
