Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

This is your federal government on drugs

1. Dems seek to control executive pay


2. How and why to stop the nationalization of medical care. Related, if medical insurance is a right (how can it be?), then how can it be forced on you? They don't force us to buy guns.


3. What's on the Dems' nationalization agenda after medical care? Education. Yes, they want to run K-12 education next. Heck, they are so good at running things, aren't they?


4. Your tax dollars to pay for lawyers for Jihadists


5. Taking global warming hysteria seriously

Re exec pay limits:

Let's see this admin go after salaries for sports figures who often rake in tens of millions a year. How about Hollywood types making twenty million a picture, or Beyonce, Oprah...We are living in insane times...Has anyone in the media bothered to question the constitutionality of the administration's latest tilt toward communism???

How about caps on the compensation that former Presidents, Senators, cabinet and agency officials make. How about caps on author compensation for autobiographies. How about professional athlete compensation caps, how about actor compensation caps, movie directors, producers, etc., etc.

No one can make money except the favored of the elite governing class...brilliant!!!

Having said all of that, executive compensation structure at banks and corporate structure of investment banks, i.e. public versus partnership, is a factor in this financial mess. There is probably a role for regulation to oversee the structure without micromanaging the actual $$$ result.

I'm not for capping anyone's pay, but if the government is going to fire the first shot over the bow and to try to cap the free market's then I'm all for capping all types of government pay. Municipal, state and federal. Plus all the perks they get. No more free cars for heads of departments, pay your own health care, you want to start capping pay, start with the government and not the free market.

They can't limit how much anyone makes - only where. Look what is happening to a certain insurance firm named after CT's capital that just received TARP funds.

Not only will they force medical insurance on people (may be a good idea, that way doctors will at least get paid and not end up treating people who can't pay their bills because they're forced by law to treat everyone, payment or no payment).
You'll have insurance premiums be income dependent.
For some reason in socialism people with higher incomes are supposed to pay more for health insurance than people with low incomes, despite repeated studies showing that people with higher incomes have healthier lives and less doctors' visits, thus are a smaller risk to insurance companies.
