Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Boycott?

The ethical case for boycotting GM and Chrysler. A quote:



The UAW was a major reason why the companies hit the wall, and now the UAW will be rewarded with major control and ownership. It is as if a rape victim were forced to marry her rapist. The result makes the crony capitalism we saw in Russia look clean by comparison; it, at least, was a kind of capitalism.


This situation is ethically repugnant form every perspective.

As long as the rape-victim(s) are the share-holders, debt-holders, and customers.

GM Management actively helped the rapist.

I've been boycotting them for many years simply because their products were unacceptable. All they've done now is add several new reasons why I shouldn't reconsider the boycott, among which the UAW is primary.

The new Brown Shirts in Obama's army, the UAW. Soon to be followed by the Teamsters and the NEA.

Hunh. All it took for me was a) receiving a bailout and b) blowing some of my money on a full-page ad in WSJ saying 'thank you'.

But I can be cranky, sometimes.
