Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Wednesday, February 18. 2009We need more race consciousness?Black AG working for black President says Americans need to make "racial progress" and to deal with race better by somehow becoming more race conscious. I always thought the goal was color-blindness - to deal with individuals, not skin colors. It's not hard to do that, because there seem to be about a thousand different skin tones in the US. I think we ought to speak - and think - less about race. It's a stupid subject. Trackbacks

QUOTE Holder maintained that Justice Department employees have a special responsibility to advance racial understanding throughout the country.: It's bad enough to have every spoken word examined by the PC police trying to find offense where none is meant but to have the feds do it is frightening. It's like using a cannon to try to kill a fly. The possibility of collateral damage is very high, as is the likelihood of the fly escaping harm. But him gonna lead us all to the promise land and da 'new birth of freedom' so's we can see da Lawrd!
Holster is sure da Lawrd is a proper Negro fella, no doubt. Holder plays race card, calls America a nation of cowards... the only cards in this administration's deck are race cards.
This is the kind of thinking that will dominate this administration - "get back at the man, take what is ours, and make whitey suffer like we did." Sheeesh... "Through its work and through its example this Department of Justice, as long as I am here, must -- and will -- lead the nation to the 'new birth of freedom' so long ago promised by our greatest President. This is our duty and our solemn obligation." -Eric Holder, the nation's first black Attorney General "Oh, lo'dy, lo'd, he's desp'it! Do what he sayyyy, do what he sayyyy!" - Bart, the West's first black sheriff in Blazing Saddles I'm afraid the bigotry we experienced under Affirmative Action policies will pale in comparison to what is coming down the alley now. Any appearance of a pun is a direct result of my being whitey. OH laawwwwwwwd. oooh laaaaww..

you make some obvious and factual observations Excuse me for not commenting --- my thoughts, feelings & emotions are on a medium simmer... .which I suspect will come to a complete bubbling & rolling boil in the near future. . . This admin seems to be working hard to ensure they only have to serve one term.
No - taking control of the Census and repealing the 22nd Amendment will ensure that they only have to win once.
The only reason to play the race card is to gain some advantage - based upon race.
I thought we were supposed to move beyond racial distinctions, not continually make them. Mr. Holder, do you want to be treated as just another american? Stop pointing out that you aren't. What's the goal of having this discussion when you know just having it will result in someone calling you racist?
` Meta, my Dear
your intellect, scholarly back-ground and experience is well respected by myself and all that read your comments . " result in someone calling you a racist " ? ? ? is the threat & fear that has brought this country to the sad state we find ourselves in today. WHO CARES ? I'm thinking it's time to stand up & man up, and call it like it i-s . wit all respect . Agree. That's what I meant by why bother 'having a discussion'.
People are getting very, v e r y tired of talkin'. ` I agree with the last statement wholeheartedly. Spending so much time talking about race has nothing to do with equality, it is only done to try to give one race certain advantages over another. Same thing with the obsession with gay rights.
According to The Houston Chronicle [not an admirable source because of its fact skewing, but the only daily paper we have] Eric Holder also complained that the naughty American people are still "self-segregating." I guess he means that people of similar interests and incomes choose to live near each other. Apparently he has discovered another area of personal freedom to complain about and try to deprive us of. Another freedom down the drain. This is truly scary stuff. And this man is now the United States' top dog attorney general.
Calling George Orwell. "Big Brother is watching you" and getting ever closer. Marianne Meanwhile, hyphenated Americans are having a field day in the media: "Tune in to New BO's.... The Rise of The New Black Overclass, a new show on CNBC.
Distributist ... The "black overclass" is not really very new. One of the most interesting interviews I ever did, when I edited the local Public Relations Society of America chapter newsletter, was one back in the 1960s with John Johnson, the founder and publisher of Ebony Magazine, Negro Digest and several other publications. A charming man, Johnson was the son of sharecropper who arrived in Illinois from the South as a young man without very much in the way of funds. But he was impressive, nonetheless, and with determination he eventually managed to find enough financial backing to start a small publication.
He worked hard and smart until the publication began to gain an audience, and gradually added other publications as his profits grew. Success breeds success, as the aphorism goes, and it was true in his case. His was one of the first black publishing empires. And he was one of the founders of the "black overclass" in the Middle West. Way back in the 1950s and 1960s, he was a paradigm. I wonder if the CNBC show knows about him. Marianne My main concern is semantical. When does the media use "overclass" to describe wealthy whites, or hispanics? Reference is usually made to the "upper class" or those "super-rich", you know the ones, those who simply lay around and count money and need to be taxed and have their wealth distributed because clearly there is no way one can "earn" a $10 million bonus.
The term "overclass" has Planet of the Apes implications. (Oooops, was that a racist remark?) Wasn't the last time Americans had a fearless discussion about race about the same time Army troops had to go in to Little Rock?
What does this Holder guy want? Blood in the streets? What an irresponsible pompous ass. Because if he wants a discussion on race, that means he's going to have to listen to some sides of this discussion that he doesn't agree with or like very much. But truth is, as we all know, he doesn't want a discussion on race. He wants to lecture us about his views on race. And he wants us to sit there and nod in agreement. What a load of crap. One man talking about race is ok if he is the right color. If a person of the wrong color said the same thing it would be a hate crime.
How in the heck can you have an honest discussion under those conditions? You cannot. |
