Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Scenario

Thanks to Tiger for pointing out a new economic site, Baseline Scenario.


Their global Baseline Scenario, 2/9/09 is a grim but plausible piece. They do a clear job putting the housing bubble in perspective, as one part of a global cheap money house of cards. Furthermore, it is written in English instead of economese.

The 2/9/09 Scenario may be clearly written, but it's the same old Krugman, neo-Keynesian baloney:

"8) A rapid return to growth requires more expansionary monetary policy, and in all likelihood this needs to be led by the United States."

The reason for the current mess is precisely what they recommend: more Federal deficit spending of fiat money. Inflation, rather than prudent savings, as a hidden, vicious tax on working people.
