We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Serous Leftists, i.e., those who want to establish and maintain actual government ownership or control over the economic system are all implicitly totalitarians. On the one hand, they want to take total control over peopleís lives under the pretext of improving and enriching their lives. But their policies are so bad, cause so much destruction and human suffering, that the potential is created for an explosive outburst of hatred and vengeance against them once the public draws the logically inescapable conclusion that it is they and their policies who are responsible. To stay in power and keep socialism in existence, they have to prevent this from happening by crushing all possibility of dissent.
Limbaugh is a major thorn in the side of the Left. They need to remove him, because his criticisms serve to slow their advance and might even help to stop them in their tracks.
Thatís why Iím for Limbaugh and I too hope Obama fails at every turn in his efforts to expand the powers of government.
Barrister and Punter ... I'd like the radical left to fail at every turn as well, but things don't look very good right now. I'm afraid that the Republican Senators will cave on this stimulus bill, and that it will pass the Senate. If the Republicans would just "grow a Pair" as some General said not long ago, even the women, maybe we can stem the dreadful tide. But we might have to experience some of the awful results before the hardworking but inattentive folks get the message and cowboy up to stop it.
Republicans are practically extinct in New England so we can't give you any support there, MM. Judd Gregg saw the handwriting on the wall and, not wanting to leave the cushy set-up in Washington that they all come to know and love, signed on with the Obamas. Good riddance. I hope John Sununu runs again to give the GOP one New England seat. The two dames from Maine are RINO's and will cave under the slightest pressure and are not fit to be in the Opposition Party. We're down as far as we can go here in Yankeeland so we can start climbing the hill again. Cheers!
The two senators in Maine are among the motivating factors that drove me from the GOP. I have no reason to associate with such disingenuous hypocrites. I gave up trying to fight them. The Maine Republican Party is a lily-livered somnambulist who sleeps with the enemy, and Snowe/Collins lord over it like a pair of trannie dominatrixes.
Lily-levered somnabulist. Great description. I watched Susan Collins speaking on TV this morning, and I didn't hear a word she said so measured and torturously slowly did she speak. I kept wondering if she was retarded or thought the reporters were retarded and had to speak like that to make sure they understood. Ugh. Shoot me. Even a kindergartener would zone out over listening to her.
The point made by Thud is well taken. We are honored by our enemies just as Rush is honored by his. He hasn't been right on all of his points, but for the most part he communicates ideas that are sound and inspiring. The Left's war with Rush is our war. If we don't stand with him in this, it may take generations or more to overcome this evil.
Dissent may or may not be patriotic. Agreement may or may not be patriotic. Speaking the truth and sticking to principle are patriotic, whether in support or in opposition.
"Progressives" believed that the success of G.W. Bush's policies would harm the nation and they opposed the policies (some just hated Bush, of course). That meant they wanted G.W. Bush to fail. "Conservatives" believe that the success of HHC (His Hopeful Changeness) will damage the nation, and oppose the policies. Which means we want Obama to fail. Not the nation.
There are some "progressives" who seem to want the nation itself to fail. That would explain their desire for Obama's success.
