Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Sunday, October 5. 2008Memo to snobs: Go suck an egg.Brit media snobs look down their noses at Palin. But it's not just Eurosnobs. We hear the same thing around here - entirely from women. (Is this about the Narcissism of Small Differences? Is it because hating happy, normal, well-adjusted people makes you feel smart? Or is it envy of her studly husband, her self-made success, and her obvious femininity and good cheer? Or is it all - probably - just because she's not a bien-pensant angry Chardonnay-and-Brie Limousine Lefty?) Some examples we've heard lately: - She's too feminine (I think that means she's trim and sexy) In other words, "She's not really one of us." These, I would contend, are all class-related, "We're so sophisticated" attitudes. When you think about it, it's funny how class-conscious and intolerant Liberals can be when they want to. Below is Palin in Carson on Saturday. Thank goodness for all of those non-snobs. They are the heart and the heartbeat of America, and we Eastern elites should thank God for them.

"We hear the same thing around here - entirely from women activistic liberal female journalists."
Fixed that for you. It's to note that the fact that some liberal screecher is female is pretty much irrelevant. They're not speaking for American women any more than the male libs are. A female doesn't "take someone's word for it" just because the author is female any more than a male does -- unless the topic is gender-specific, like having babies or putting on a jock strap. - Nobody we know, knows her Quick, cue the Manhattan lady's Nixon quote. :) What do you call a progressive who doesn't subscribe to postmodernism?
Someone who doesn't have an excuse for being irrational. oh... A chance to show my intolerance. What is 'postmodern'?
When did 'modern' stop so we could add the 'post' to it? :) Nah... talkin' to mesef because that's what metas do. I do like 'metamodern' better than 'postmodern' as 'postmodern' makes no sense. "Modern" is a continuum and has no beginning or end so how can anything be 'after' it? I haven't used enough " ' " in this sentence. I can read fifty definitions of postmodern and still come away with: "What asshole picked 'postmodern' for this stupid trend where telling the truth is a bad thing and hurting feelings is enough to cost a person his job." Progressives are not only illiterate fabulists, they're weenies.
` Huge weenies... Seriously, since campaign '08 began I've just concluded these people are impossible idiots w/o a single shred of common sense.
Post Modern? As always, the Simpons go to the heart of the matter:
"It's PoMo... You know, weird for the sake of being weird." Moe Syzlak Re: Sarah Palin A few of my high school galpals like to call each other every day and make fun of whatever Sarah did or said last night. Doesn't really matter what she said or did, it's really all about who they'll let sit at the cool kids table. Which is a damn shame, because in my world, and Sarah's world, we're welcome to do what we like. Even if it's just sit around the cool kids table like 50 year old teenqueens dissing 'the geeky kids'. But if we all have to move into their world and Barack's world...then we're ALL the unpopular kids. We're all the geeks, and we ought to know our roles and shut our holes. Let our betters decide for us. Ignore the media hype, pay no attention to the MSM behind the curtain, don't let the cool kids tell you what to think. Get out and vote, so you can sit at any damned table you like. "it's really all about who they'll let sit at the cool kids table."
Odd that. I grew up in a very small town - more a village I guess. I don't recall a 'cool kids' table but it was probably there. At least they had the decency to not spread the word to us 'uncool' types. I managed to survive. Laughably the reunions are/were a celebration of remembering very little about anything. Fat bald dudes and women who believe that mascara, lipstick and heavy perfume can erase 30+ years. Sad really. But there it is. I hope you have already read my posting below--sorry I forgot to connect it here.
I just ran across this--read the item, then the first comment for as pretty a picture of PoMo I have seen lately. [Well, I can't figure out how to get it past the spam trap.] ht tp://tigerhawk.blogspot.com/2008/10/end-of-history.html Pretty in the same sense that this is pretty: ht tp://instapinch.com/?p=1360 Most of the nasty cracks about Sarah Palin in the mainstream media are from Steinem-type feminists and their metrosexual-male adherents, and they are a result of toxic envy.
Here is a woman who has been an outstanding success both as a traditional woman and as a pioneering reformer. She's done it all, with grit and grace, and she's happy and optimistic about it. This drives the angry feminists crazy. To them, there is only one path to success for women -- knuckle under to the establishment at the right times and places, find a powerful male sponsor who will defend you when things go sour, and elevate you to higher positions and better jobs, and then ruthlessly take down any woman who appears later if she doesn't conform and make the character sacrifices you did to get where you are. Sorry, girls, I've watched you all my life, and you have signally failed to live up to the principles of the modern feminist movement, one principle of which was to help promising women as they came along in the workplace. You should be thrilled that a woman of Sarah's quality and energy has come along. Instead, you'd like to kill her professionally and thrust her into the closet. Shame on you! Marianne For those that say "She is not one of us": Thank God.
May your cohort shrivel and disappear. See this:
http://rightwingnation.com/2008/10/05/confirmed-4/ PoMo -- Post Modernism
It is the disease that has ifected all of our "instituitions of higher learning. I don't know of many exeptuions. Use your favorite searcdh engine (I like "Dogpile"--it recognizes holidays besides Ramadan) and study Alan Sokol and the things he leads you to. Or (if you are like me) if you like portable wisdom, buy "The Sokol Hoax" and see where that leads yo. How come nobody much talks about the fact that both McCain and Palin look like they are having fun?
Doing something they enjoy doing. Upbeat. and I have been wondering: Where in the world are they hiding the TelePrompter in those shots? I like Saracuda for a couple dozen reasons, not the least of which is that she is a heck of a good winker--
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCunBErZZJE Around here everyone thinks she is stupid and does not sound the way a president should. Can someone tell me what a president should sound like? Jimmy Carter did not sound like Bill Clinton and Bill did not sound like Richard Nixon and Ronnie sure as hell did not sound like Ike so which one is it? The ladies are definitely threatened becuase she does not fit the role model and all the Ivy Leaguers and wannabe Ivy Leaguers are threatened by a woman who transfered 5 times and has a B.A. amd might just get to be the Vice -President.
Meanwhile one McCain Banner has been stolen and another had a full doggie bag thrown at it so what does that say about the local Democratic supporters in my "hood"? I just hope all the Republicans get to the polls and vote her and McCain in office. On another note, what can we surmise about Obama's judgement when he would not pick Hillary when it would have guaranteed their ticket the oval office in January? I think he is ruled by emotion and will be one uncertain bloke if elected. Why the Palin Derangement Syndrome? Because at the heart of leftism is self-loathing. It's always been so. Nothing sends leftists around the bend more than an obviously happy, well-adjusted, confident, successful Conservative. Self-loathing turns into mouth-foaming hatred of "the other." It's sad really, but the angry left has self-hatred at its core.
That CAN'T be the turn-out at a Palin event. I didn't see that on MSM, so it can't be true.
It wasn’t that conservative women like Kathleen Parker and Rachel Lucas claimed that Palin appeared to be “Clearly Out Of Her League” that concerns me, but that they received so many vicious emails after publishing this opinion. Shouldn't people be taking on Palin criticisms head-on instead of impulsively emoting and grandly theorizing?
As an added bonus, google this:
"List_of_current_United_States_Governors" to find a place to start your fantasy VPOTUS game: From Wikipedia, Palin appears to be not only the best looking but also the youngest governor, by far. All the other female governors are either attorneys and/or have tons of experience. Sarah Palin "cheapens" the Ivy League brand thus their hatred of her. Sarah, the "lower priced spread", has every bit the quality of leadership as all of those Ivy Leagure strivers. When Sarah succeeds it says" See, you don't need an Ivy Leagure degree to get to the to top of the greasy pole." And all of those Ivy League strivers have been sold a bill of goods that they now find is just another hollow liberal promise! How is that for "self-actualization"?!
The light dawns!
Voting for Palin is like buying shoes at Walmart. No matter how good looking, how well built, how well they do the job, no matter how..... They came from Walmart. A woman who likes to kill animals...I like that.
A woman who likes to kill animals.I would love to go killing critters with her!She is a neat woman. Her being VP, she's in way over her head. I wonder what the repubs. would say if Palin was on as Obama's VP?I think I know. She couldn't even name a newapaper that she reads! WTH!? Larry and punter,
What the &@$$ ? At this place where they turn varmints into fine cuisine, derelict shacks into fine homes, trees unruly dogs wouldn’t even pee on into hearth warmed places they blissfully sleep near after a successful bird hunt, with their very own callused hands and yankee ingenuity.. At this place you guys can’t even build an effective argument from the comfort of an easy chair using any of my helpful hints? You should be ashamed of yourselves! |
My short answer is that far too many Americans are fundamentally selfish, self-centered, ego-centrists.

For the first time since March we actually had to turn on the heat here at The Manse, the temp inside being 53 degrees at the time. It's still too early to fire up the Official Weekend Pundit Woodstove,...
