We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Why does it please me? Because Psychoanalytic ideas were hijacked and distorted by Marxists, Existentialists, the PoMo movement, "progressive educators," academics, and other miscellaneous Leftist or anarchic moonbats - none of whomever understood it at all. The less those people talk about it, the better.
Psychoanalysis is about plumbing the depths of human nature and the human soul. It's closer to anatomy and surgery than it is to "critical theory." It's never PC, it's somewhat dangerous, and it's not for amateurs.
Interesting how surgery and anatomy and engineering and accounting and building construction and software and anything else with definitive answers doesn't get taken over by Marxists. If you BS in those professions, bad things happen. Out in the open. Where everyone can see.
How the h do we know if Psychoanalysis works? We have to take someone's word for it. Either the "doctor", who in most situations is left to be his/her own judge, or the patient, whom by the very nature of the problem set is flawed and can easily be lead astray. And perhaps when psychoanalysis does work, it is the result of the patient formulating his/her own thoughts in a more coherent way in order to communicate them to another "rational" person and thus, in the process, discover the solution(s) himself. Perhaps prayer works the same (or much better) way, provided the pray-er can visualize a Supreme Being who is all rational AND all seeing. Of course either way in most cases a lot of money changes hands. Not always for the good.
You're sure a cynic at times, KRW. But I sure can't disagree with a word you say.
It's all about anxiety, isn't it? About this world or the next. And I've discovered over the years that 'talking' is the best cure for that emotion. As it allows one to "discover the solution(s)himself."
Thing is, is that the Marxists, et.al. appear to only have anxiety about the external world, you and me. When they look inside themselves they see only good. It is we who prevent their lives from being ideal.
