Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

How the blue dress messed things up

What might have been, by Fred Siegel in City Journal. I always thought that the impeachment was insane overreach, and dumb politics. The Repubs were rabid.

Rabid is never a good idea.

Totally agree regarding overreach. While his actions were taudry and unethical it was not so agregious that he should have been distracted and hounded while in office. Also as a political calculation all the Reps did was gauruntee that they would get repaid for many years at many times the level of vitrial which is a loosing game as the Dems own all the major cultural and communication channels and know how and are happy to play much dirtier than most of the Reps.

Although I rationalized away at the time, in hind site, I must admit it was way too much. Who knows what the unintended consequenses were and are?

Today William Jefferson Clinton, accompanied by his wife Hillary, his leman Jane, and his concubines Rebecca, Alice, and Monica, took the oath of office for President of the United States. After introducing the world to his latest bastard --- 3 week old Robert, son of Alice, via closed circuit tv hook up from Alice's home in Brentwood --- the Presidenrt proceeded to speak of ongoing negotiations with House Speaker Newt Gingrich regarding entitlement reform --- legislation is expected to be presented before Congress shortly, and the need to expand the U.S. military in the face of Saddam Hussein's continued intransigence regarding the 1991 armistice.

He also stated that support will continue for the Afghan rebels struggling to overthrow the Taliban government, and that measures taken to isolate Pakistan will continue. Our thaw with India will also continue and deepen. The 1st Armor division is expected to join the Indian military for maneuvers near the India-Pakistan border.

In other news today, a report from the American Psychiatric Association was released showing that having a single sexual partner at any time is not a sign of sociopathology.
