We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Perennials in Containers

Mrs. BD thought there might be some interest in the subject of growing perennials - rather than annuals - in your containers. It's a bit late in the season to post this, but I will do so anyway, and re-post it next May, God willing.

Since it might cost $50 to pack a good-sized container with annuals, and since perennials are generally more attractive and interesting, it might be worth a try. We have occasionally been happily surprised to see perennials in containers coming back to life in Spring. The trick is overwintering them.

Photo is one of my containers, filled with about $40 of annuals. Should have tried some perennials.

Nice green thumb BD, and the photo is good too. Off topic check out Irena Sendler vs Al Gore on You Tube. I still can"t believe they gave the Nobel Peace Prize to this moron.Talk about being a mommie"s boy. Now thats an award he should have won!!

Luther, I am humbled and honored, that you consider me Knight worthy, I will try my best not to disappoint you, or the millions of sheep I represent. The staff rests with you, the proper owner. A man of great wisdom, wit and intellect. Thank you for taking care of me on my quest. The manna and quail came in handy when I was hungry, but I could of used a blanket instead of laying with these smelly, flea infested sheep. I itch all over!! plus to make matters worse one of these stupid sheep ate Meta"s picture. I made sure the next day I led him, and some of friends off a cliff.I sure do hope that Helen of Troy will come back!! Again thank you for the confidence you have in me. You endured hardship and soft wool for the greater good. Your quest will be legend for eons. Mrs. Tralfaz does pot perennials this way - big pots. The pots seem to get root bound faster than just a single type of plant in the same size pot.

We drag them into the "greenhouse" for wintering. The greenhouse is a covered patio with cedar 1" x 2"s as the frame wrapped in clear 3 mil visqueen.

We're in North Western Oregon so the winters are not particularly bad. Some of the plants actually continue to bloom through Christmas and start blooming again in February.
