We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Shorpy's comment: "Washington, D.C., 1920. 'Penn Oil Company, Massachusetts Avenue and North Capitol.' National Photo Company Collection glass negative."
I lived about three blocks from there until 2 years ago (almost exactly), just on the other side of Union Station. Nowadays there's only one gas station around there, at the corner of Mass & 2nd NE.
For some reason, that picture made me think of this: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/04/26/AR2006042602307_pf.html
Ironically, the gas station is next door to the conservative think tank, The Heritage Foundation.
