Capt. Bartholomew Gosnold
His name is well-known in Cape Cod and in coastal Virginia, but not so much elsewhere. He was the first Englishman on Cape Cod, in 1602, named Cape Cod for the abundant fish, named Martha's Vineyard after his daughter, and was later a leader of the Jamestown settlement. He is considered the prime mover in the settlement of Virginia.
His bio here. His grave may have been found, in Jamestown. Story in the CSM.
