Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Monday, April 14. 2008No more right-clicking needed here. It's about time we fixed that. Our friend and guest author Dr. Mercury told us how to create links readers can click without losing the page at Maggie's - so you can left-click links now. The little things in life make a difference. In fact, 99% of life is one little thing after another. Next project: Enabling links in the comments. Trackbacks

I've been a right clicker for years, everywhere... so that particular change is not that big a deal for me... but enabling links... fantastic. Thanks to the both of you.
I've been "center-clicking" links for quite a while now. Of course, that assumes your mouse comes with a center "clicker"
Ooops! Hit submit too quick.
You mean the: target="_blank" snippet added at the end of your hyperlink? Okay, there's good news and bad news.
The good news is that ol' Doc Murky is an ornery, cantankerous old bastard with no scruples or sense of protocol whatsoever, and actually dared to contact the webmaster directly and hound the poor bastard into adding the new stuff. As Grandma always said, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Presenting: The first embedded link in Maggie's history. And the first picture: Vanessa Hudgens, ultra-mink. And the first italics! And we also have colored text. You have these colors available to you:
And you can 'blockquote' others: QUOTE: Complaints about the drilling bans in ANWR and offshore are a staple of right-wing talk radio. But I remember Malcolm S. Forbes, back in the 1970s, saying that we should drill as little domestic oil as possible. Pump the Arabs' oil as long as it lasts, then -- when oil has become really scarce and valuable -- we'll be the only ones with any left! - Glenn Reynolds" (I'll have to look into getting the font style changed and get rid of the Bold) That's the good news. The bad news is that all the above has to be done manually. No cute buttons and pop-out box for the link like on Ace's or Michelle's. You can click on the "BBCode" link below for the layout, but I'll whip up an easier-to-read page in a bit. On the flip side, though, although we have to do it manually, I'd note that we have a lot more options than the average blogsite has. Most of them can't do colored text, employ lists, embed pictures, and a few other tricks this stuff can do. And, if you happened to notice something vital missing from this list, well, that's why Maggie's brought me aboard. Ornery, cantankerous -- and with the courage to tread where few dare to tread! I noticed my personal fave, Strikethrough fonts, was missing from the BBCode page. Not hesitating an eyeblink, I promptly tried the Strikethrough code and it worked! That Doc Murky -- what an omnipotent god nice guy! Have fun, gang. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Not just for setting up the left-click widget, but also for joining the team and sharing your information.
Vilmar - Yes, the software has an option to add the TARGET= command, but the bloggers weren't using it. I pointed it out to BD after using the editor last Friday for the first time and he's passing the tip along to the others.
Forget geek stuff.... I want to race you, Doc.
P.S. My AOL ball spins too long. Do I need RAM? She's 20... but same as a kid for us 'older' folks.
Born in December, '88 = 19, but that's just splitting hairs.... seems out of place here on the farm.
No quibble. But it has been done before... perhaps before you were here. Some quite heated and interesting discussion followed... but we're just guests after all, you know.
"...but we're just guests after all, you know".
I can't argue with that...

Meta - Race? In what? As the pondiferous RadioHowie told me when I got the Firebird, "Stay away from the Shelbys and the road is yours." I totally waxed a brand new BMW a while back, but I think the kid was more startled an American sedan was keeping pace with him than anything else.
"My AOL ball spins too long. Do I need RAM?" No, quite the opposite. As long as it's spinning, it's proof positive that your computer still has plenty of extra power. "[Vanessa Hudgens] seems out of place here on the farm." - Jephnol Pardon me, but did you just say a Disney girl was inappropriate for Maggie's Farm? I mean, a Disney girl? Snow White? Cinderalla? Princess Fiona? You got some pretty high standards, buddy! A Disney girl whose recent foray into adulthood resulted in naked photos of her scattered around the internet at the ripe old age of barely legal.
Disney girls: Snow White - animated - innocent Cinderella - animated - portrait of demure coming-of-age Princess Fiona - animated - funny and strong Vanessa Hudgens - human being - naive and tarted-up @ 19 years-old One of these characters is not like the others... I don't have high standards, but I do have some standards... Oh yeah, wasn't that Britney Spears girl a Disney kid, too. Somebody call Dr. Phil!
Yep. I intend to allow you to eat my dust. I pick the venue because I'm a girl: A Virginia backroad 'neath the shadow of the Blue Ridge.
Wear a jacket cuz I will blow your doors off. :) Wasting Maggie's bandwidth to test my cheat sheet... and see what works and what doesn't... it appears 'size' and tag-less 'links' and 'email' are the only inoperative ones. And the 'size' tag not working may be a feature and not a bug. Thanks Dr. M.
