Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Saturday, May 2. 2009Spring Fishin' SeasonThat's your hard-working Editor in the background, fishing in Connecticut in the Spring rain a couple of years ago. It's time to review some of our good trout posts from the past. Fishing sea-run trout on Long Island, on the Connetquot. Here's our post on the Eastern trout species. And here's our post on the Western native trout species. Here's the latest info on safe catch-and release techniques

What's all this I hear about Bimbo Fishing? And what do you use for bait?
Huh? Oh. That's very different. Never mind. Fishing aside, that Amber sure do got some wheels on her --
Amber is hot. And what I mean by that is she was shot under tungsten light with no color correction. She's all red and yellow and it gives her swimsuit a radioactive glow. Give her a little blue and a whole lot of cyan with a few quick curve adjustments (that's luminosity gentlemen) and then she's hot as in "the hell with fishing".
BD, the link to bambooflyrod.net is FUBAR. Damn son, being left with Amber ain't no bad thing, but a dead link is like putting a pecker on a pope.
Sweet Jezebel, that sounds like my old grand-pappy!

Hahaha. Yep... 'tits' I'd heard, but not the pope one. Good.
Hey BD, maybe a guest article on halibut season here in the Northwest in a few months?
Now BD, if you wondered at all what I meant about all them colors and such have a gander at this page on my site:
http://jephnol.com/quickie/hot.html I fixed her up as good as a stepped-on web file's going to get on my computer fer right now. As I was tweaking not fer profit but fer fun I didn't bother coloring out hot spots and such, but there's a blinky GIF file with bright colors so have a look. I'm going to delete the page lickety-split. Git yer gander quick. (Links still broke). Heh. I can't argue with that!
I think the problem for me is the whole image is plagued by the colorcast and it creates awful geometries on a white page. But then all of the hot spots in my edit leave the image with a failed high-key look. (I swapped the background out from black to white on the page to show the image as cutout—don’t know which version folks gandered at…). Y'up, like the edit better. Put'em up side by side rather than as a blinky GIF and checked back in after a bit. If'n the capture was 16 bit and on the heavy side of say 10 megs or so the edits wouldn't batter the hell outta' the bitmap. But here we are... The image shows a bunch of bitmapping after edits that make her skin look awful, but it took those hits before I got it. Highlights are a might overblown as I said, but boy, look at those blacks. No orange either. I hate tans in a can.
well you sure know your stuff -- wisht i had all that activity knowledge--it would open new vistas for my highly uncompensated photoshop career

My junks just a shoe box fulla' dirt vis-a-vis what I seen around, but I'm happy and havin' fun. Shoot, a man's got time on his hands what's better'n tweakin' a snapshot of a beauty in Photoshop. Life is full and good. Hell! Ever' day above dirts a good'un, and how much better is this?
I just likes to drop by Maggie's now and then to listen to you gents share your worldly wisdom. Things to be learned in these parts. For sure. As always, your humble (as in, of little compensation for Photoshoppin' as well) servant.

Hello? This place is quieter than a cat at a greyhound park. Where'd everybody gett off, too. You folks are having a party somewhere aren't you. Damn...
BD, that link is dead, but www.bambooflyrod.net is not, savvy? Did not intend to mislead. Heh. "Get off, too" really should have been "get off to"...
It's opening day here in the Lakes Region of NH at last.
I fish all season with bamboo and silk line, usually an old Granger Aristocrat 8 1/2' for #6 line, less often a Leonard Tournament or an Orvis Adirondack. Lovely fishing tools, and they should be used, not locked away in some collection. Also see codella.com for some fine rods, and Coldwater Collectibles. There are a bunch of sites out there.
You know when you’re huddled under a tarp with all but the best of the crew, in the pouring rain, drinking the last of the beer, mesmerized, by the fearless leader who’s repeatedly casting to the exact same pool, to pause for a second, before nudging the fly out into the flow, zen-like, until he gets the bite the discouraged crew had believed unlikely, that you’re watching somebody who’s “got the gift.”
