We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
We don't seem to get good old fashioned snow storms anymore. They always change to sleet or freezing rain like this mess this morning. Global warming I guess.
I'm sure the snowfalls are quit nice. Wisconsin broke an all time record for snowfall yesterday.
As for me, I enjoyed the 72 degree weather I had to suffer yesterday here in Orange Park, FL. The trees are beginning to blossom out.
BTW..new data from Dean Van Lines shows a massive migration of people out of the NE to places like South Dakota...go figure. Tax structure was mentioned.
And along the same note Detroit was once again named by Forbes magazine as the hell hole of American cities and the worst metro area in which to live. That is don't need to go figure. It's all in the demographics.
Finally another migration. This time from Arizona, New Mexico , and a few other SW states of Illegal Mexicans to ...Texas, where they are apparently welcomed with warmth and affection...go Texas.
Re: migration of legal citizens: Taxes. Sales, property and estate. So many Boomers either are unemployed [euphemized as self employed or early retirement] or soon will be, so they will choose where to live based on where they can hold on to their own property best. Should I lose my job I will go raise goats, dogs, horses and organic veggies for people w more money than sense in a state w favorable taxes. Once kids are launched, one isn't locked into good school districts any more.
This wasn't a particularly pretty snowfall in Boston, unlike some of the ones we had last month. Still I wouldn't give up the snowy landscape. Seasons and are the background metronome to life.
