Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

off/topics but TNJ will appreciate:
http://tinyurl.com/3x5qre (it's a link from The Corner) Thanks for the link Buddy...I happened to reference an article by ARNAUD DE BORCHGRAVE here a few weeks ago and one of the posters made fun of his name and was in a deep fog over who the hell HE was..what could he know....I let it go ..no use arguing with the congenitally illiterate.
Over at Lucianne the re is a post with the question of whether Rush, Sean et. al. are losing influence in the turbulence of this Republican race for the nomination. Rush I quite listening to a few years ago due to heavy work load and my TV is off befor Sean hits the airwaves, but my impression is they are stuck ..... stuck in the Reagan era and stuck in the conservatism that marked that era. It took over twenty years for the Republicans to develop the philosophy that took them to victory, the conservatism of Reagan. But Reagan was not a single issue, no compromising politician. He made plenty nice-nice with the Democrats when it served a better end than getting nothing done at all. The rank and file loved the smell of victory every morning of his presidency, and he was a truly great President ,but he was not a dictator, and knew how to play the political game. Now those who believe they are the last true believers of, and standard bearers for Reaganism have grown sclerotic in their politics, wishing for days gone by and a return to what no one has ever been able to do...a return to yesterday..yesterday is gone, get over it, and move forward. They believe they are the only "true' Republicans left on Earth when in reality their feet are firmly planted in the cement of the early 1980's ...not just the last century but the last millennium also ...not a good thing for those of us who live in reality. This is an election we can win, and win decisively because our nation is fundamentally conservative. However we will never win it having to drag an encrusted anchor of paleolithic conservatives, unwilling to face todays challenges through the process. It is time to move beyond the cult of Reagan..even he would want it that way. Unless your brain has flatlined on you then you certainly realized the importance of this election. Henry Kissinger was asked why he felt this election was so important for the next several decades. His response ..six Supreme Court judges readying themselves for retirement. The next President will nominate those judges. Need any more be said? not really -- however far we've gotten from the Founder's vision, it's the judges who've shoved us.
Are you sure Nikon is giving up their 35mm line? If I remember correctly, they're still offering the F6 and the FM10.
Also, going against the trend, Fuji film has recently brought back Velvia 50 after having retired it a year or so ago. You might well be right. Thought I read it someplace, but can't remember where.
Re: Oh, man
She's a girl and girls cry. Y'all, definitely, wouldn't want a girl who doesn't cry. Girl that can't cry is some kind a monster'd drive men to tears. So, let her be. I'd bet she'll be bawling come November. Litigation may follow the results of Ledger’s autopsy, as a grieving family may try to find fault with the health care professionals who prescribed their son a litany of drugs. Surely, a loved one will ask, they must have known he was prescribed all these drugs.
Sadly, though, no one other than Ledger may be at fault here. As insensitive as this may sound, Ledger may have been so desperate to find solace or slumber that he failed to recognize the ramifications of mixing all those drugs at the same time, or even over a short period of time. http://www.timesrecordnews.com/news/2008/feb/08/our-opinion-lethal-combination/ the very suggestion that this is anyone else's fault other than ledger's is yet another example of eager we are to shift blame and avoid accountability for bad personal decisions and romanticize celebrity behavior. why can't the media just call his death what it was? just a typical end to typical story of untreated drug addiction. big wow. happens every day. but so does recovery. too bad we never hear about that. It's funny how the MSM chooses to idolize Heath Ledger even in death. A man addicted to both legal and illegal drugs who eventually killed himself and left a two-year old without a father. Maybe if we pointed out that he was a coward who abandoned family and friends for drugs instead of idolizing him we might convince some of our young people not to follow in his footsteps. Just a thought...
I noticed in another blog, a rush to blame big pharma and Ledger's doctors without considering the possiblity that Ledger was a drug seeking addict who might have seen multiple physicians and had prescriptions filled at multiple pharmacies. In the reports, it has been noted that the drugs were prescribed. That doesn't mean squat when you're talking about drug addicts.
I kinda like watching Hildabeast cry...karma chalks up another shadenfreude zinger. As Eric Cartman of South park would say: Ohhh, the tears of unfathomable sadness, mmm, yummy… yummy you guys!
Fuck you people saying Heath's death doesn't matter. Bunch of HOMOPHOBES!

Some of our younger readers might be astonished to learn that but many years ago, these tips used to be called, in less enlightened, less obssessed with counterknowledge times, common sense. (Via the H.R. department at Maggie's Farm.)...
