Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re: yesterdays article on Romney...
My papa and most of my uncles were WW2 vets. My Dad was also a blue collar union man. My mom was from Detroit and my uncles there were in the auto biz. Used to go to Detroit all the time. When I was little Pop told me that America needed a strong auto industry because the auto industry encompassed all the industrys that America needed in a time of war. That might not be true but I still remember how much he and my uncles believed it. I guess that is why Romneys’ commitment to Detroit and the auto industry interests me. In the blood. The auto industry is also vital to southern Ontario. I think that the corridor that stretches from Detroit to Toronto and on to Buffalo and Syracuse NY has a GDP that is larger than most countries do and a lot of that is still from the auto biz. check this out:

Probable war in 2012 while GWB goes and sucks up to them in 2008 for the Olympic Games. Also note the use of our anti-war left against us. But what would the public think if US forces instead of just the Taiwanese are attacked. Would Wal-mart's stock drop to nil? We have the tiger by the tail. In thinking over the Chinese vs. USA military challenge a key component is already being employed by the Chinese.
Several months ago the Chinese targeted one of their aging weather satellites and blew it up. The natural result of this was the creation of a huge debris field. This past week the US was forced to maneuver two satellites around this debris field. This causes the finite fuel aboard our satellites to be used more rapidly than the syllabus calls for. This shortens their useful life by a huge factor and is very costly. The Chinese HAD to know the orbits of these US satellites and what blowing up their weather satellite would do to their efficacy.by creating a debris field in their path. It was basically an act of war. Should the Chinese continue to blow up aging satellites and create larger and larger debris fields our satellites will be eventually trashed. Washington issued to the Chinese at the time a very stern warning about their "test" of blowing up satellites, but for now the one debris field is costing the US millions. This could explain the premature degradation and decaying orbit of one of our spy satellites .. knocked out by Chinese created space debris. Very subtle and with built in plausible deniability, the Chinese are at minimum twisting our tail. The Mark Steyn piece is as good a read today as it was on the 24th when I first posted it, here at Maggies Farm...but then Steyn is always a good read.
read it thrice and you will embrace it with a glow that will bathe you in peace and contentment.
That me be aglow, bathed in peace and contentment inhibits dark Stayn's, boring slanders.
But upon third reading...yea, boring. Orwell and Steyn and pigs and anti-Islamic... reminded me of this post on 'wise use of the written word' discussing Orwell's essay on "Politics and the English Language".
http://www.welmer.org/2008/01/19/george-orwell-on-the-wise-use-of-the-written-word/ Orwell's essay here: http://www.george-orwell.org/Politics_and_the_English_Language/0.html We must be clear in what we say. It is vitally important, obviously. The state of the world hangs in the balance by our use of the English language. I need heed my own learning on occasion. Re: China
"Taking the enemy by surprise,” one Chinese military expert wrote, “would catch it unprepared and cause confusion within and huge psychological pressure on the enemy and help [China] win relatively large victories at relatively small costs.” Not a chance of taking us by surprise there. Also, this theoretical routing fails to mention Japan. As well, why would China risk economic collapse by attacking the largest importer of their goods? Seems to me the only war they'll fight in the near future is against their own peasants. Hamas.
Let's move Israel to our southern border. Give them the entire southern border as their Promised Land. The promise is that they stop illegals from crossing over and we promise to protect them and build them a bunch of Wal-Marts. What would the Palestinians do without a reason to riot and yell in the streets? Probably attack each other, but that sounds good. How disappointing for them not to have Israel to bash. Kinda makes you feel sorry for them. not. I like that idea of moving Israel to the southern border... a good fit all the way round. They could make our desert bloom as they have there own. A much better idea than returning it to Mexico.
First Caroline ,now Teddy going big for Obama.
If there exists an electorate more deserving of the nations hatred, other than Massachusetts electorate, I'd like someone to elaborate on the why's. They have continued to burden the US Senate with another Kennedy liar (Chappaquiddick, among others) the porcine, bloviating drunk for decades now. This after supporting the patriarch run running Hitler loving Joe ,Sr. and the unquestioning support for the drug addict, adulterer, cowardly JFK. What a slimy state. Even bad examples have their uses.
I hope you never have to grow up in a beautiful land, rich in a proud history, only to watch it slowly being degraded by democracy run amok. At least I can make one proud boast, I've voted against that turd every time he ran. My mothers eighty now, when she's gone, so am I. What purpose would it serve China to militarily attack the US?
I can't think of an advantage they would gain. They would also lose their country. We do have nukes on subs last I heard. The scenario they are working on the hardest is bringing down our C4 capabilities and our economic structure via a massive attack on our various internet systems. They already have an entire military division devoted to the daily hacking into our works. If they did that we'd nuke 'em. There's more that one GPS type system in place for the military and Peking and the entire newly rich coast of China would be vaporized. What they have managed to do and will continue doing is to indenture us economically to them so that all negotiation we have with then begin like our negotiations with Berkina Faso. Anyone who thinks China would actually invade Taiwan hasn't been paying attention to Taiwanese politics over the past year.
Do you mean that in the sense that China will achieve their goals politically, and will have no need for a military solution? That is the direction Taiwan appears to be heading.
If it's between McCain, and Obama (or, Hillary,) sign me up for the Democrat. I'm serious.
Sunshine patriot, way to go. Open the door for the Dems to stuff the SCOTUS and all the Executive Branch with socialists that we'll have to deal with for the next 30 years. That'll help things.
The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this election, shrink from the responsibility of upholding capitalism over socialism; but he that stands now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. So Rufus you just run on down to the registrars office and sign up to join the side you damn well know has more socialism in their philosophy of government than the Chinese currently do. ...and Rufus you'll just feel the socialist love wash over you when the government nationalizes the fuel industry and begins using the Kelo decision to confiscate private property and give it to other private citizens who will promise to produce higher tax revenue...of course with our government bailing out every business with more than 100 employees that shouldn't be too difficult.
Capitalist to socialist, the Rufus answer to a tough election. Rufus, I cain't figure why ya want to join Limbaugh smoking jiggaboo stogies.
Especially when, as VDH says, Republicans are in a win win race. "Remember that Ronald Reagan signed the greatest amnesty bill in our history that helped to ensure the present 10-15 million illegal aliens, raised payroll taxes and upped gasoline taxes, sold arms secretly and illegally to the Contras, had a disastrous episode in Lebanon that cost 241 Marine lives, naively called for global nuclear disarmament, and far more unconservative accomplishments—" McCain will be far better conservative than the man who cut and ran from Islamic terror in Lebanon, Ronny Raygun. Before the present governor/gal/democrat stole the gubernatorial election in 2004, we had a Chinese (American) governor/democrat for 8 years. He and those who were momentarily blessed made many, many, many trips to China. After his first election his campaign manager became the Dean of Arts/Sciences at Seattle University. The ties between the Chinese government and the Democratic (Union?) party are very strong. Their demands are simple--give up this democracy thing and govern more in the Chinese style. I don't know how many trips the Clintons made into this state during their years in the White House, but I do know the I-5 Corridor was closed down for the safety of the "visitors" in black limousines a heck of a lot more than during the GWB presidency.
I do not see the Chinese as expansionist or imperialists but I think they do consider Taiwan and maybe parts of Siberia as theirs. Russia might have something to worry about there. I thought America was commited to protecting Taiwan. Would not like to see China test that commitment.
Maybe the French guy is a front or fall guy. A diversion. I do not like BNP or Power Corp, not that they are involved. Seems French (and Swiss) Banks can be weak links in some regulatory matters.
I figure This brings China's biofuels investment up to about $15 BILLION. I guess there's nothing like having your population "freezing" to death to focus the mind.
http://biopact.com/2008/01/sinopec-reportedly-to-invest-5-billion.html At least with Obama, or Hillary, I won't spend the next 4 years being constantly disappointed. I'll know in advance what I'm going to get (a steady diet of Democratic horse-sh!t.)
I'm hoping that enough people, like myself, will balance out the lib vote at the top of the ticket with a Republican Senator to keep at least 45, or 46 Pubs seats in the Senior Circuit. If they don't, what the hell. I lived through Carter, and Nixon, too. You folks need a lift:
http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=NjEzYjJmOTZhZjdlOTA1NmFiNzZkMDc4MDlkNWU1OGM= (maybe it'll help) Buddy, good advice from Mr Kudlow ..... as you know I'm always of a sunny disposition and ready to throttle those who aren't.
Yes W, stay the course (I know he will) and bomb Iran. "it is in the Republican hands" i suppose that means Huckabee and McCain won't be elected as that would mean Democrats in the White House. At this juncture there is only one viable Rebublican left in the field and that is Romney. Clinton will continue to self destruct( Or should say Bill will) but do we really want a guy who is going to have to learn "everything" on the job? Obama may be a bright fellow but he is not ready to lead the Free World. God Help us in November.
.......with Sen. Edward M. Kennedy calling him a "man with extraordinary gifts of leadership and character," a worthy heir to his assassinated brother.
Somebody, anybody please tell me how Ted Kennedy could recognize the traits necessay for competent leadership? His father was recalled as Amb to Gr Britain because he was so pro NAZI he was giving FDR heartburn, not to mention giving cover to one of histories great killers, a man who gassed people to death and then burned them in ovens. Daddy of course made his fortune running rum during the prohibition era, thus flaunting the law and "running" with the likes of Al Capone. So was it from his father he learned leadership qualities. I think not. JFK, a bullet ended his treachery and drug ridden adulterous life. Yes, Caroline your daddy and Uncle Bobby were sharing Marilyn Monroe when your daddy wasn't humping Mafia Boss, Sam Giancannas girl , Judy Extner ...Don't guess Fat Eddy learned much there, except maybe not to ride in open top cars. The dog Ed Kennedy wouldn't know a "an extraordinary gift of leadership and character under any circumstance. He's the biggest asshole in the Senate, bar none. I think he has some issues. We can all pray for a really massive CVA to take him out, so all hope is not lost. I'm trying to keep my eye on the ball. That is, the no-more-Clintons ball. So, for the nonce, he will simply be the "controversial" senior senator from Massachusetts.
In response to a number of complaints that there are not enough Black and Hispanic people appearing on TV, the Networks have decided that in the future 'America's Most Wanted' will be shown 'TWICE' weekly !!
Just a note. While y'all are watching our (Kansas) carpetbagger governor give the Democrat response to tonite's State of the Union address...here's a heartwarming story about how her 23 year old son is marketing a game via our state mansion. The game is 'based on prison life' according to the press release. Far as I can see, it's based on mocking rape. Rape is rape, in prison or out of it, and I just haven't found the proper point of view for me to think it's really funny. Maybe that's why I never voted for Her Nibs.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,325852,00.html Rape...wotta laff riot. By the way, Madame Sebelius is being groomed by the Dems to assume higher public office. VP? Future presidential candidate? Senator? We'll see. Could be that my problem with her is EVERYBODIES problem soon. Since she just loves to raise a tax, y'all are hereby warned to mind yer wallet. That girl is still there, is a wonder of Kansan longsufferin'.
Nevertheless, ain't goin' to watch her. Bet she's a blonde. Good reruns here... Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ad1RDt1WsHY And The Temptations. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltRwmgYEUr8 Don't know if those cute Brits the Beatles sold more copies of ‘Really Got a Hold On Me’ but Smokey was the real deal. The power of the yuan in purchasing resources yields much better returns. Sure, a many pronged war, understood. But then... is it just ego that pushes the envelope? We can crush them if we choose... why do they tease the tiger? Do they misread history?
Luther,
It's classic Sun Tsu. Chapter 4 The Tactic of Disposition for a start with other Sun Tsu involved. That's my take on it anyway. It fits in very logically with the division they have daily attacking our C4 capabilities (of which satellites are certainly a component) yet allows them to continue a military buildup way beyond their needs with plausible deniability that they are doing anything. |
