Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

BD, you've been doing a great service to your contributors by highlighting Adam Smith. I thank you for doing so.

I am confident it is many contributors first exposure to his work and I would hope they would read and CONTEMPLATE what he wrote. To do so would be to truly transform this nations psychology to one more productive.

Nope Adam Smith's writings are, I am afraid beyond the capacity of most Americans to fathom. Tis far easier to grab a beer, some dip ad chips, and watch an endless procession of sports programming, pseudo survival programs, or American Idol...then come Monday return to prairie dog town, cubical life, and wait for the next Friday.

We are in deep deep do do. The final capitulation will come if the Democrats gain all the powers of the government. Citizens will be indentured to taxation beyond their comprehension.

I agree completely. The prospect of the Dems controlling all three branches of government, the media, and academia is terrifying. Because I'm convinced that whatever it takes, the Dems will make sure the Republicans never get their hands on the levers of power again and thus we will have passed the point of no return on the road to serfdom.
