Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Chock Full o' Nuts

Jackie Robinson was VP of the Chock Full o' Nuts coffee company, whose chain of luncheonettes in NYC were as well-known from the 20s through the 60s as MacDonalds is today. Note the prices. And note the piece of Scotch tape holding up the Dodger's banner - for those few who might not recognize the great man.

The $.20 pea soup is nice, but today I have a 2-year-old low-end laptop on the desk with more computer power than all of early 1960s Bell Labs put together ; and so cheap that it's not even worth selling on eBay.

Man cannot live on pea soup alone. There must be mathematics.

but all the computers that will ever be can never run the bases like Jackie Robinson --

He was a truly brave and beautiful man. I just watched a documentary titled America:Freedom to Fascism and it devotes a good portion of the film describing how Robinson was hunted down and tortured by the IRS. He was publically humiliated and personally destroyed by the agency. The film can be downloaded off its website and viewed for free.
