We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Readers know that Obama's politics are about as far from ours as anyone's (plus I think he is naive as hell) and that we would therefore never consider voting for him, but one must admit that he is not only an appealing fellow - he is good at this game. He has it all over the seemingly soul-less, cagey, condescending and contrived Hillary Clinton personality-du-jour in natural sales and marketing talent.
Ambitious as he is, he displays more heart than raw ambition and calculation. A tough opponent, I think, and a potential winner if his lively spirit can defeat the grim Clinton Machine. If I worked for the Clintons today, I would be worried. Here's his impressive (yet mostly empty) "Thank you Iowa" speech:
He's a Chicago machine pol, so it's no surprise that he knows all the moves. Another of the moves is knowing when to step aside to further the cause of The Machine, so watch the goings on in the weeks ahead. As for his lack of overall substance, remember that it took loser Carol Moseley Braun to create a "slot" for Barry to fit into.
a president who will be honest about the choices and the challenges we face,
who will listen to you and learn from you, even when we disagree,
who won't just tell you what you want to hear, but what you need to know.
a president who finally makes health care affordable and available to every single American,
the same way I expanded health care in Illinois,
a president who ends the tax breaks for companies that ship our jobs overseas
and put a middle-class tax cut into the pockets of working Americans who deserve it.
a president who harnesses the ingenuity of farmers and scientists
and entrepreneurs to free this nation from the tyranny of oil once and for all.
a president who ends this war in Iraq and finally brings our troops home
who restores our moral standing,
who understands that 9/11 is not a way to scare up votes but a challenge that should unite
America and the world against the common threats of the 21st century.
Common threats of terrorism and nuclear weapons, climate change and poverty,
genocide and disease."
He said Hope 11 times and Change 4.
Small change from a man who sold out his own Health Care proposal in Illinoise to corporate interests.
This boy is stinky which makes him a Democratic runner but he is no finisher.
Democratic machine will plow his stinky nest under.
Hillbillary will be so much more fun to defeat at general election, and subsequent electoral college election.
Coming from the same great state as Barack Obama, our illustrious junior Senator, let me just say, no, not say, really plead, "Barack, come home! Illinois needs you! Illinois deserves you! Illinois created you...and your place, Barack, is back here...in Springfield, in the state legistature...where a man of your stature, your experience, your politics really belongs. Barack, for heaven's sake, spare the rest of America and come home!"
