We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
"The start of this election is a little scary and has started with two populist, eloquent demagogues. They talk about hope when half the world hopes to be in America."
My first thought when Fox News called it for Huck was, if you think all that "Bushitler" stuff was bad, just imagine how it'll be if we have a Republican president named Huck .
It won't be pretty.
BTW, BD, you or Barrister posted something by Percy Bysshe Shelley a while back, so it was kind of on my mind when I was later going through a picture gallery and came across a certain picture. Just couldn't stop myself:

He wasn't much on meter, but he could sure knock out a meaning.
I don't think I've ever pronounced it out loud before (well, maybe when I first heard it in 7th grade), but he uses what we'd call a counterpoint tempo in music, all the way down to the word "despair", and then a verse finally ends on the 'down' beat.
Then the last verse jilts back into the off-tempo for two sentences, and then neatly wraps it up on a final down note.
So thanks for the interesting lesson. Kind of the poetic version of "don't judge a book by it's cover."
So, BD, are you a betting man?
If you noticed, our favorite Brit blogger didn't carry out his plan to jump servers, he just opened a new account with GoogleBlogs.
So, would you care to bet how long before Google blocks him again?
