Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The Marketing of Global Warming

Taking another look at the data, Holland in a piece titled The Marketing of Global Warming in On Line Opinion finds data cherry-picking all over the place.

Here's the now-discredited scary hockey stick (no longer defended by anyone due to erroneous stat analysis, plus the Southern Hemisphere is, of course, entirely different):

Related: The Sky is Falling. And I see that the Pope, a far more scholarly sort than the pompous, thesaurus-addicted Al Gore, is a skeptic, but where's that Pope link I had earlier? Got to find it...OK Here it is.

I found those graphs way back when, doing my initial GW piece... after having gone through a number of geology courses, including some emphasis on glaciers as we had an expert on staff, I knew that GW had no water it could hold. I have also done a piece examining the larger concept of regression to the mean and how to identify it... fun with graphs!

BD - The basics always stand you in good stead!

When a question gets 'complex' - question the basics and see what makes it so and you usually find out what the real problem is. Being right with the fundamentals means that you can then ensure that fair criticism of multi-order derivitives is on firm ground...
