Enviros oppose wind farms. For the wrong reasons, though. I think�wind is stupid because we could easily meet all of our electrical needs with cheap nuke power, with zero environmental impact.

The CSM is already blaming world events on global warming, when global warming hasn't happened yet, to a meaningful degree. It's a theoretical prediction, but that is obviously news to our "objective" reporters at the CSM.

I read the CSM article on global warming that you linked to. What struck me in particular was the utter and complete lack of facts, of foundation, for precisely what they mean by "warming." It was as if everyone knows, like the sun rising in the east. I used to scoff of people who suggested environmentalism had become a major world religion. No more. It is based substantially, and fatally, on faith. Just bizarre.

Greenpeace is currently having a contest to name "their" whale...so far teh interwebs have manged to bypass the Eskimo, Native American, Persian and other, so-touchy-feely-you-could-vomit names in favor of "Mr. Splashy Pants".

Go to the Greenpeace site and vote. While you are there click on the nuke links....it's STILL the debil, no matter what, forever and ever. The sheer stupidity astounds. Evidently windmills and self important posturing are all thats needed to free us of dependence on imported fossil fuels.

They have evidently tagged a whale with a GPS device that will allow them to track the migration.

No idea as to the sex or what name it currently answers to....or if it might be a bit peeved at the presumptuousness of Greenpeace in changing it's name.

The old saw about windmills killing birds. Everyone knows that the new ones move slowly and use gear boxes to get that power into usable rotational speeds for generators. Duh.

I keep waiting for the "new solar" technology to make it to market. Spray on solar coatings, thin plastic sheeting, very efficient, and somehow scarce. If it's so easy to make, and so powerful, where's the capitalist who can turn this technology into a profit center so it makes sense to use it? All I ever see, for 4 years now, is the "it's here!" pronouncements, and yet no roofer has the electric roof I want for the price advertised by the promises. I imagine solar roofing on every house built new, and all retro fits for new roofing would make a dent in the need for burnables, but still it's elusive.

I just want to start a business making the converter boxes to pump the juice back into the lines. There's some money to be made there.

I don't understand the windmill promotions. The "technology" is one of the oldest going so I do "presume" that if it were really a good way to power up, we would have done so.

check the stock charts of the alt energy sector. For starters look at First Solar (FSLR):

P/E: 156.73
52Wk High: $252.39
52Wk Low: $26.50

IOW, money is pouring, really pouring, into the sector, but only recently--so the we're now in the lag between adequate capital and the results of such.

Note that the broad indexes average a stock-price to earnings-per-share ("P/E" or "P/E Ratio") in the mid-teens. FSLR--and this is just an example of a dozen or two high-flier alt energy companies--has today a P/E of 150 or so--or about ten times the index average.

IOW there is a huge amount of investor confidence in the efficacy of these new technologies becoming financially rational.

If you want an eye-opener, look at the effect that oil prices have on the alt energy capitalizations.

Briefly, the higher oil goes, the more money flows into the oil alternates. This is a painful reality, that the alt techs won't go anywhere on a real basis without oil being expensive.

Well since high oil prices are to be around for a while, I suppose the "cheap" solar might just get off the ground, so to speak. Thanks for the insight.
