We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
They don't need to meet you. Any information deficit in regards to you (or anyone) may or may not exist, but either way, it isn't the point. The point is, they want to make big changes in our culture, in the name of the ''common good'' --and they are certain that their definition of the 'common good' is both true and exclusive.
Where I live a major management consulting firm has been advising insurance companies about how to increase their competitiveness by cutting “claims costs”. So guess what happens? Locals just passed some “triple damages in lawsuits” referendum against so-called "bad faith" by our good and decent insurance companies.
When I needed my own insurers services (for the first time after over 20 years, mind you) I just took the first check they offered me (not wanting to screw with messy contractors ‘n lawyers ‘n all) and like the self-reliant individualist that I am, simply hopped up on the roof and fixed everything myself - even building the scaffolding and engineering all structural repairs. I figure I made better than minimum wage and even got some new tools in the deal, and the scaffolding was converted into a beautiful new wood shed.
What’s wrong with people these days – needing these damn lefty trial lawyers to keep em away from good ole fashioned hard work?

Find me a functional society that has made the 'common' 'good'.
It is an impossiblity as all societies need the common to do the things the snotty won't. And all societies have those who can't do anything and are the responsibility of all of us.
I sound like a liberal. No. Just realistic. We are not equal, and no amount of political engineering will make it so. Keep the lumpen happy and surviving and we all keep our heads.
