We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Love a nice Prince of Wales stock. Tough to make from a commercial semi-finished pistol grip stock, though. The grip isn't quite long enough to make them look right.

I read that story about the Norwegian town that has lost money investing in our mortgage market on Sunday. Two things struck me:

"They invested the money, through Terra Securities, in the Citigroup debt vehicle, which offered a better return than traditional investments" (that is, it was a riskier investment than traditional ones)

"Even if the Norwegian prospectus had been complete, it is not certain that Narvik would have shunned the investment. Ms. Kuvaas, for one, said she did not read the prospectus before voting to authorize it "

They were greedy (no problem with that, except they were playing with public money) and they were stupid. I have no sympathy.

Umm, one copy, thank you.

I've already paid for Jeff Bezos' new megayacht with just my own Amazon purchases, including the helicopter pad and helicopter, so no more yachts. Not even for limerick books.
