Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Where our contributor Gwynnie is this week

Ducks in the AM, Ruffed Grouse in the woods or Sharptails on the prairie after lunch, then ducks again in the evening. Then it's cocktail hour. A very fine trip, if the weather is nasty and the ducks are flying. But, of course, if the weather is nasty it doesn't work for grouse. I prefer the grouse, in a way, because sitting fatigues me. I like the grouse myself, not too many around these days here in New England. What's that on the roof? Looks like some kind of observation platform.

That's a "widow walk". Old term, and sadly obvious in origin--

My new hi-def screen reports two guys up there, shielding eyes from setting sun, looking north, as a southerly moisture front begins to over-run the cooler surface layer.

There's no sunshine between the photog's legs, so it's probably a skirted wife, or a guy in baggy britches.

We took a scouting/hunting trip up there last fall. We landed on the public landing, but saw the road going back to the cabin with the big Canada flag. Fortunately, some images never leave my mind.

ha--we better wait for the report--they could be looking south-- flying, my son flies--he's learned me how to maneuver, but not take-off & land yet. I'm in no hurry--it's been a lifelong struggle for me just to hang onto a driver's license, what with all those humorless gestapos out on these wide-open highways where everything is far apart.

I remember those farm to market roads. Most went right past the warehouse for liquor--just inches outside of the blue county!

The north/south guess was based on the building's siting--front north, so hang-out area in back would get more southern sun. Good-looking set-up. Izzat a Jim Walter bldng?
