We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Don't miss it. It begins in the early morning here in the East, so it will be too late to see the full effect. I'll be up at 5 to watch, and to milk the cows.
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that wakes up early with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in Iowa now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their eyelids tight whiles any speaks
That watched with us upon this eclispe night.
CAIR files lawsuit against use of term "pigskin" in football
The San Fransisco CAIR office filed a federal lawsuit seeking an injunction against the use of the word "pigskin" in American football. The suit was filed with in the 9th Circuit Court jurisdiction.
Ali Hassan, spokesman for CAIR said it was "against sharia law" for Muslims to hear the word pigskin. The suit will only involve those airwaves governed by the Communications Act of 1947 which defines the "airwaves" as belonging to the people.
The NFL and NCAA had no immediate comment.
That was the most complete lunar eclipse I've ever seen. At 4:20 AM MDT the moon was gone, just gone. Maybe ten minutes later a bit of brilliant red marked its return, slowly widening to an arc as the moon moved out of the earth's shadow. Definitely worth seeing.
