We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The News Junkie referred to academic blackballing this morning. Here's an excellent example of the academic McCarthyism that goes on today, from the NYT. (I hate to use the term "McCarthyism" because, although he was a crank, I am not convinced that Joe McCarthy was all that far off.)
It's about Dr. J. Michael Bailey, a sex and gender researcher. Scientific debate is fine, but you are not supposed to use live ammo. When scientists begin using live ammo they have abandoned persuasion, so it makes you rightly doubt their confidence in their positions.
By the way, we wrote about the Transgender thing here and here. At this point, I believe that there is more politics than science in the whole subject.
Science is no more. Political correctness has taken it's place. If 'transgender studies' is a discipline of the 'social sciences' then I have a doctorate in beer and baseball and Al Gore has a chance of avoiding the rubber room.
PC didn't arrive on the scene on it's own having grown organically out of developing social mores. It's a movement being deliberately foisted on the society by academia and a lapdog, thoughtless MSM. As an earlier thread on Saul Alinsky and the wonderfully corrupt and power hungry Clinton gang combining with the modern Democratic Party pointed out, it's all about power and magical thinking. The nation is losing it's mind . Liberty will soon follow.

You have no doubt heard of or read the Venona Papers. They prove that McCarthy was right. Had he had the demeanor of say a Sam Irvin or a Wilfred Brimley he could have made a better impression.
But Tailgunner Joe aside from his own "A" type personality had the brilliant Roy Cohn and Gerard David Schine on his staff. He was too close to the truth and needed to be silenced...we know that today.
Franklin and Eleanor simply adored Uncle Joe and were socalists feeling the nations pain.
Good links Buddy, although that par 5 with the dogleg was a bit bothersome.
I believe Theodore Dalrymple made the more cogent point.
I think I can avoid the slow motion suicide we're involved in by gett'n on up to Montana. I figure I've got between 10-30 years left, 10 of which will probably be without Depends.
After my calendar runs out I really don't care, I will have done all I could to inform, direct, produce, protect and defend, and contribute to a once great nation. Each generation must confront it's own problems.
I must admit however to some delusional desire to have fighting break out here so I can kill me a few more commies and now Islams, the religion of peace people.
Is that too much to ask for since those bastards have caused us such a headache since 11-4-79?
I have just decided that I am crazy , and ever one else is normal. I don't know witch way I'm swinging so I'am going to have a sex change change operation. We are as nation are commiting collective suicide. We decided a long time ago that democracy is to tough for us . We like to be taken care of by big goverment . God and Baby Jesus help us all!!!
