We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Camping this weekend on the AT in NH. Leaving now, without camera or anything with weight. Bringing buns for toasting though (toasting buns photo via Theo). Wish Theo could join us.
Who do we want in charge of medical care? A good piece on why the SCHIP is a bad idea (h/t, No Left Turns). I guess I just don't care about children, right? Interestingly, polls show Americans don't want to give up their medical freedom... as they have done in the UK, where docs owe their loyalty to the government, not the patient, as in this horrible example of organ-stealing. I thought grave robbing was against the law.
The Death of Sweden. Brussels Journal. A sad story about a suicidal nation. I guess there has always been a lot of depression and self-loathing in Sweden anyway.
Is this the same former NY Aty General, that in his private life also headed up a very large investment group--you know the one that ate up all the small family farms in the midwest, during the years that those farms were being destroyed by poor "new" ag policies? Is this the same guy, who helped to initiate the "empty quarter"?
Is this the same investment group that forced a take over of John Deere and one of the fertilizer companies. I am not certain how much they own of the meat packing houses. But, could there also be a relationship with the new focus on producing corn for fuel in that empty quarter?
Great and glorius news
