We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Nantucket Round-up

Rounding up illegals, illegal criminals, and gangs on Nantucket. Who knew? (h/t, Wizbang)

When will they come to round up and remove the yuppies? The yuppies are the "root cause" of the problem because they don't want to do their own work.

I can remember when Nantucket was a remote, rugged Yankee place that nobody wanted to go to, before the glitz invasion from New York, Dallas, Greenwich and Hollywood. I guess East Hampton got too crowded, and private jets have become more commonplace.

What's left? Good old un-yuppified Cape Cod, and, of course, Maine (but you can't swim in Maine).

just there and yep it is a hispanic invasion like the one in New Orleans and here in Yankee land but it is as you say becausrethe all the nuovo riche yuppies simply do nothing but bring out greenbacks to pay the illegals less than they would have to pay the Americans. In Greenwich they pay the illegals eighteen dollars an hour to clean houses so it is no wonder they cross the borders to come here.

I know I've said Charleston, SC, is the greatest city - and it is, but I dream about Camden, Maine. That has to be the most beautiful little town north of the Mason-Dixon Line.

If it's full of illegals, don't tell me.

I don't know about Camden, but Lewiston has been overrun by Somali Muslims in the last few years, even though there are no jobs there:

I got a comment from a local who said, "This is central Pennsylvania. The closest thing we have to illegal immigrants are the Amish." Hard to argue with that.

We pay $22/hour for house cleaning. If she were illegal, it would be less. Still, her English is quite limited. She does a fine job, and doesn't shrink the clothes.

Swimming in Maine? OK, in a heated pool - or with a wetsuit.

I am still considering Oswego. I think the forty feet of lake effect snow keeps crime low.
