We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
It begins right now. I need to follow Bill Roggio daily to keep up with all of the action.
I thought the "surge" would entail more aggressive policing, but no. This is turning into the first set of battles with Al Quaida. The bad guys are now facing a large group of tough customers, and what seems most hopeful is that they are being attacked everywhere at once. No place to hide.
I wish them luck. I watched the news yesterday as it brought in the body count, four or five bad guys killed which was then juxaposed by a car bomb going off outside a mosque that kill 40-60, injuring many more... The math didn't add up to a long term victory.
Until we get real serious , I mean nuclear serious with Iran the ME trouble is not going to go into remission. Iran now controls Hamas at the throat of Israel..how much more time do we think the Israeli's will give Iran to develop abomb. The reality is an Iranian bomb is one flight into Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport, or any number of military airports away from being a reality. North Korean sells the ICBMs and the black market or more likely Vlad P. will to it off. She bang.
I wasn't blogging here when we began OIF but I advocated the Curtis LeMay cure..
Level the county, forget the hearts and minds, conquer all of them , drive fear deep into their souls and the do what we did for Germany and Japan. Rebuild later. We are far too "sophisticated " to use those types of tactics today, and every day we pay the price. We could have rebuilt the entire place by now if we'd demolished it in the first place.
I am not a humanitarian when it comes to killing the enemy. I want it to be brutal, unforgiving, and for the enemy, civilization ending.
Ya gotta love the Australians. I know I do. The two things i don't like about Australia ar the gun laws and the other is the fact that that contenent conatins just about every deadly snake, spider, creepy crawly thing tou can name.
I can distinctly remembering walking into my BOQ room at Pine Gap (GS-9) and seein a "bid Brown" coiled up in the corner. The Aussies took care of it but they are DEADLY.
I look back now at the six weeks me and my "mates" spent camping in the outback near the McDonnel Range, sleeping in tents, etc...never got bite though.
For those reasons I'd take New Zealand but they have very restrictive laws ontaking in old people ..alas I fit inot the ols people catagory, but if I was young I think I'd head down under.
BD....Absoluetly..let AQ know that there's gonna be a big sheep and goat festival with a OBL look alike contest a la Key West and Pappa Hemmingway and then we Warthog the bastards into Paradise.
Although ever since Vietnam I just have a soft spot in my heat for the B-52 carpet bombing technique. If you've ever been within ten miles of one it's a sensation you know only comes from POWER.....I think deep down inside that's why I was so underwhelmed by the "Shock and Awe" aspect when this whole thing started ...yeah I saw an explosion over there and another one over there but the building right next door didn't even get the kitchen windows dirty with dust...I was expecting to see a few square miles turned into rubble.
As soon as the Islams recognised we weren't gonna hurt anything but empty buildings next door they just rolled over and went back to sleep. They should have all just painted American flags on their roofs.
