We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
When reality clashes with dreams, is it then really the role and responsibility of the press to try to disguise reality? If so, I think the dream is becoming a nightmare, when unrealistic dreams are being forced upon us.
Shucks. I thought it was Vaclav Havel. He is my number one hero.
A simpler way of life? Like back in the 70's? I'll go for it because the sartorial splendor of that era will never be seen again.
And that's a good thing.
Everyone talks about what a vapid, no-good idiot Paris Hilton is and how she's photographed and glamorized just because she's rich. And look how many blogs are adding to that empty vainglory by talking about her. Ignore her if you don't like her. Fox has turned into the PH Channel. Sheesh. It was Lindsay Lohan last week. We are the ones living the simple life. Let's start a new war or something. Invade Mexico. :)
OK , here's an idea that late on a Sunday night will go no where.
Perhaps it wouldn't go anywhere on the sunniest day of the week but here it is.
A NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS DAY"
It woild take place on a weekend day.
The sole object would be to have every American who owns a rifle, shotgun, or can legally carry a side arm in public to be seen with the rifle or gun.
In front of town halls would be a good place....don't carry any ammo, don't get inot any arguments with anti gun people just be SEEN, in the millions across the nation with a weapon in your hand.
Can you imagine a spontaneous event like that happening, nationwide?
I mean we go to the polls to exersice our write to vote. We arite to blogs and newspapers, and out flyers and use bullhorns to exersice our freedom of speech.
But our guns remain in the house behind the bedroom door. They should be shouldered at least once a year and seen in public..that's one of our rights too..and a big one that guarantees all the others..
I say we should our guns and let the world see us using all of our rights.
Perhaps if the Muslims thug militias who love to show off their Ak's were to see TV coverage of 200,000 million Americans shouldering arms once a year they might just calm down a bit ...a picture like that would be worth a million words.
you mean Vaclav Klaus, the current Czech president, not Havel, the former Czech president. Yes, their first names are the same, and yes, they both have very interesting things to say, but they are in fact two different people.
Everybody knows about Havel, but how about that Klaus? I'm glad you noticed; Klaus is almost alone in Europe with his criticism of the global warming mania. It's partly thanks to him that I finally got around to reading Hayek and Friedman.
