We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The dead immigration bill

told ya so. but then everyone knew it was just plain stupid. however if you want illegals out then I would start by not allowing their kids to attend school. Once they try to register then they should be tagged and deported but where are you going to find the agents? and how will you deport? maybe jetblue will give some planes......this is a mess that won't be solved anytime soon.

the Germans did it in ww2 they simply went around and made them wear yellow stars on their coats. Sounds to me like we are dangerously close to losing more than our borders.

I know the Jews were Germans I was referring to the method used to clear out an entire group of people. After all , the number here is hovering at 12 million so not to dissimilar in terms of numbers.
As far as your question the answer is no you do not become a member of state simply by living there except EU situation may be changing. I agree with deportation but until Mexico and other Central American nations start giving their citizens reasons to stay USA will always be the carrot to anyone anywhere looking for a better life.

Maybe Bush's replacement will have the fortitude to enforce current laws and help drive real reform through Congress. Bush is the lamest of lame ducks now that he has alienated his last supporters with this mess.

This is far from over folks. This was round two of a heavyweight fight that will be very tough. The powers that be want to create the North American Union, a borderless north american of Mexico,the USA, and Canada. Accords have already been signed, commissions set up and the groundwork is well under way.

Or to put it another way - how does an elite that doesn't believe in borders defend a nation-state that is defined by borders. Not very well.

Coober Pedy. The people live in large, well-lit underground houses (aka 'caves', though square-cut neatly)--built by the opal mining process.

Beautiful homes, cool & dry. Home owners insert mathsticks in the ceiling cracks. If the matches ever start falling out, leave home quick, the roof may be about to cave in.

Nice analogy, Buddy. I like Australia. Sydney is kind of LA-ish, but Adelaide is nice. It would be easy to live there. Fair dinkum, etc.

Spent all total over a year all over Aus. ABout the same amount of time in New Zealand..the Kiwi's are super folks amd the South Island is a paradise..The "Southern Alps" are there, rainforests, troutfishing great trekking, ...a few too many sheep but long about 2AM in the pub...hey
