North America's handsome King Snake is best known as a snake-eater, hence its name. He is immune to the venom of poisonous snakes.
In the US, there are a number of varieties of King Snakes, including the stunning eastern Scarlet Kingsnake, but the taxonomy is unclear. I have only seen one wild Scarlet King Snake in my life, and I tramp the woods, fields and marshes as much as I can.
