Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

40% of women have no financial plan

40% of American women have no financial plan for their future. It is a good source for that info, but I do not have the link.

For a country where people are expected to be responsible adults, and to take care of themselves, that is pretty bad. The numbers could be as bad for guys, but they wouldn't admit it.

But guys do not last as long as gals: life worries do them in.

Grow up, you ladies without trust funds. Daddy won't be there to save you, hubbie will probably be dead, and you may no longer look like the charmer in the photo.

Feminism entails demands along with the opportunities.

Women tend to live a long time as old ladies: it's the price they pay for being so delicious in youth.

What?

What is the point of this? You mention that men might be just as bad about saving for the future but they won't admit it.

I just read an article on another blog that the relentless pursuit of sex kills men early. It was even scientific and used the peacock as an example.

I have always set aside money for my retirement. Even now, supporting family and unemployed husband, I save 10%. Problem is, taking eight years off to raise children full time, and having to accomodate needs of my disabled kid greatly limit the hours and type of work I can do., so the amount is pathetic. I'm stuck with local, limited hours, etc.

I have never believed that any man would support or take care of me (tho it would have been nice). I will be one of those stubborn 85 year olds trying to live forever so as to take care of my disabled kid.

Looking on the bright side, when I am old and impoverished, I will at least not be being told what to do all day long. Most old ladies relish their solitude after a lifetime of picking up after their family. I shall keep goats and chickens and adopt all the stray dogs and cats that come my way, and have a garden bursting with flowers and vegetables to give away. Hopefully little kids will consider me friendly, tho eccentric...

The fact that women have the opportunity
to make 77 % of what men make in the
same job, probably has something to do with it.

Its easier to put aside 10% when you are making 100%.
