We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
...and foolishness. Pelosi and company visiting Syria reveals a break with reality, whether Dem or Repub. Who do they think they are?
I am not saying that diplomacy should not try to deal with enemies or adversaries, but it is not the job of Congress to do the work of the State Dept. and the Administration.
Bush has been slow on the uptake for the past year, and so it may appear that there is a power vacuum but, even so, you don't become part of a rogue foreign policy - especially with a nation which supports Hezbollah. Leave it to the pros at State, such as they are.
Image borrowed from Powerline's photo piece on the subject. There is some sort of insanity going on.
It IS insane--the game has always been to win the cooperation and allegiance of the opinion-makers of Araby. What could this possibly do, but encourage those influentials to hedge themselves toward accommodation with our enemies? It's worse than stupid--it's deadly.
You got that right! The first team they tried to put in was Mondale and whats her face. They made one big mistake they stopped in Reno for a strategy session the night before the California Primary. The Californians in those days understood what that meant and voted them down. Doubt whether the folks today understand the situation outside of their love and affection for The Sopranos, or The Godfather, etc.
Also, the liberals very much want to ignore the fact that Mondale was governor of the first state to legalize gambling on Indian Reservations. For the benefit of Indian education of course ;-) What it actually did was expand their reach around the world, and start the process of eliminating our resistance to their existence. Next, they legalized sports gaming nationwide. Often wonder who is really sitting at those G8 meetings--don't you?
Excuse me please. First it was April ___as US ambassador to Hussein, then it was Madeleine____, and now we have Nancy P: when is the US gonna get it? These folks in the middle east get a big kick out of our insistence on women going over there to tell them what to do. How arrogant and how foolish on our part. If someone tells you you gotta dress a certain way in order to be permitted to speak to them, any Psychology 101 student could tell you that what you have to say will not be taken very seriously.
OK, this Pelosi thing is really getting on my nerves! She needs to called out on her unconstitutional actions. The Constitution does not give her the authority to act in this manner. The Framers made arguments, specifically, why the House of Representatives should NOT be involved in diplomacy, and why the Senate should have only the powers to Advise and Consent.
Federalist #75 Alexander Hamilton
........(prior) remarks ..will apply with conclusive force against the admission of the House of Representatives to share in the formation of treaties. The fluctuating and, taking its future increase into the account, the multitudinous composition of that body, (*FORBID*) us to expect in it those qualities which are essential to the proper execution of such trust........
