We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I just read the reviews on Amazon regarding Clayton Cramers new book. I looks like a grat read.
i would also like to encourage folks to learn how to shoot.
The Second Amendment protects all the others as was so elegantly pointed out by Thomas Jefferson, a more cerebral than "fight'n "man, but who nonetheless knew that guns belonged in the hands of individuals since all governments eventually are corrupted.
I would also think in todays age it is especially important. And for those readers who ahppen to be born after say 1965, they would be surprised to read about guns and the Black Panther Party.
" Black Panther Party members, led by Bobby Seale, designated chairman of the Party, marched into the California legislature, in May 1967, fully armed. Defined as protest against a pending guncontrol bill (which became the Mulford Act) aimed at the Party with the position that blacks had a Constitutional right to bear arms, the Party's message that day became a clarion call to young blacks"
Yes guns in the wrong hands can back up the wrong message as the Black Panther Party showed by going forward with bank robbery, cop murders, kidnapping, and abuse of the Second Amendment. Be a responsible gun owner.
Regarding the Castle Doctrine. It's always been absurd that you couldn't kill an intruder in your own home.
Florida and several other states have expanded the doctrine to one of "stand you ground" in which you may lawfully use deadly force if you are assaulted. You no longer have to try and run away and let the bad guy get a good shot at your back.
If an aggressor comes at you and you feel that your life is in danger and you have a gun or other means to protect your life, then B_I_N_G_O...B_I_N_G_O...B_I_N_G_O and dead is the agg-res-sor....NEVER EVER SHOT TO WOUND SOMEONE WHO IS ASSAULTING YOU...TRY FOR A HEAD SHOT OR MID CHEST AND KEEP FIRING. The police were, that's were taught to "double tap", two shots at a bad guy..one to head, one to body..most of us never fire enough rounds to get good enough to kill that way. Now many police departments and the military are recommending four ,five, six shots...for relatively untrained citizens ..unload the clip..
Allow me to relate a very, very personal story. I grew up as a Marine Corps brat, prior to serving. My father was an aviator who served several times under the command of an aviator named Marion Carl. As a young Captain Marion Carl had been at Wake Island, The Battle of Midway, and at Guadalcanal. He was the first U.S. Marine aviator in history to become an "Ace" (5 kills minimum), he eventually tallied 18,1/2 and would have gotten more but the War department wouldn't letr him go back inot the war. He won three Navy Crosses, one of which should have easily been the Medal of Honor. I lived next to this man and his family on and off at various Marine Corps bases for 22 years. I dated his daughter. My father was his Chief of Staff of all US Marine Corps Airfields on the East Coast. He retired as a Major General to his boyhood home in Oregon.
One day,a punk kid named Jesse Fanus did a home invasion and blew his head off with a shotgun while General Carl was attempting to defend his wife.
General Carl was the first Marine to fly a jet,a helicopter, he held the world altitude and speed record prior to Chuck Yeager. He flew secret missions over Communist China. He was an authentic hero in every sense of the word. It was a bad thing for a punk kid to do and there are plenty of bad adults and punk kids today.
No one will ever enter my house forceably without dying. I have guns all over the house ready to be used. I learned my lesson through the loss of a truly great American hero.
In addition to ready in the house, I keep an old Sears pump 12, loaded (overloaded) and ready, in a feed shed a little ways from the house. If someone gets inside and I have to exit in a hurry, I'm outside in the dark rearmed.
