We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Two new Bach books. Quote from the review at Bookforum:
...we have the advantage over Bach's original audiences of a far closer acquaintance with his musical language—and of guidance such as both these admirable books provide. Transcendence is here, in how, as time proceeds, eternity is always present—how, in that gorgeous aria from Cantata no. 115, the shadow of a fall reappears again and again; how, in the D Minor Chaconne, the keynote is forever being revisited, with whatever feelings of homecoming or hopeless inevitability; and how, in the Goldberg Variations, the opening dance is there again at the end, "as if nothing has happened" (Geck) or as if it had been present all along, beneath and upholding "a world of sound unfamiliar and unrepeatable" (Williams).
A note sounds. Then it sounds again. But everything has changed.
IowaHawk is always good for the soul. His implimentation of "equal time" fairness is, in this age of Blogging a bit redundant but in good faith.
That Mr. Arkin of recent infamy deserves a good beat down is undeniable. He should be left in a state where numerous articles are generated for Maxillo-Facial Reconstruction Quarterly. The extreme of mid forearm severing is a bit over the top but crushed hands and fingers might be the ticket.
The fear of course for Mr. Arkin is that lone predator. The menatlly war afflicted manic. The one who might wait a year, perhaps two, then appearing with a surpressed .22 administer the coup de grace to Mr. Arkin's journalistic career. Sometimes those things happen in the most innocent of places given that a surpressed (silenced) .22 is but a whisper and the absolute choice of close in work of that type. Why I even happen to know of one back in the 1970's that fit in the palm of the hand, on a ring, much like the old "joy buzzer" handshake joke. I believe we,or it ,was called it a "stinger". One innocent tap to the back of the head and the target's brain was just so much jello.
But then all of those things would be wrong, dead wrong. His prison in Vermont and the fear his family is now experiencing will, or should, cause greater reflection on those he chooses to attack. Highly trained military men who undergo the psychologically transforming experience of combat and killing are definitely the wrong group to piss off.
The American Thinker piece really can be chilling in it's reality given the to it of an article posted in yesterdays Human Events http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=19242.
That artice outlines in detail that recent death of the Soviet cum Moslem convert Livxxx by polonium 210 was more than likely an accident. It would appear that polonium 210 is on of a binary trigger mechanism for suitcase bombs putatively already placed inside the US. They are high maintenence but the Human Events articles mentiones that as a stepped up AQ. objective.
The Polonium 210 used to kill LivXX would have cost around $30,000 dollars, a good deal more than the security people around Putin would spend to kill him.
Read the link and the American Thinker article and then go buy a really good gun and lots of ammo so when the Muslims begin what they cannot win here on US soil we can make sure of that fact.
Hey folks this ain't the habu show and it's the dead of winter so lets get thoughty on these here subjuects or I'm gonna look like a hoggy boy.( I could lose a few holiday kilos.)
Now on the matter of the Herouxville Manifesto I say pip, pip, good show, especially for Canadians who don't appear to be so constituted.
But of course I can't stop there I've got to add a few garnishments of my own to those of the Herouxvillians, with an American twist. At this point it will help if you gentle hum the "Battle Hymm of the Republic"
I believe to the depths of my soul that before we arrest this worldwide Islamic movement we are going to see battle in the streets of this country. They may not be Islams but others who decide to throw in with Islam for a battle against the status quo is a good thing. These of course will be aided by Hugo Chavez's army who can simply march to the USA. There are also over ONE MILLION people in prison in this country and many have converted to Islam. If I were AQ planning an attack I'd free the prisons for manpower ASAP.
So, what to do? Can't run, it's our country. Gotta fight..
There is a U.S. Government sponsored program that has been in effect for decades that teaches gun safety and allows citizens to actually get free target practice.
It is called the Civilain Marksmanship Program
The cited site will fill in some of the details but I urge those of you who have some trepidation about your future security to investigate this program. You may never need it's knowledge but IF you do it will be like everything else..you'll need it RIGHT NOW.
Be prepared, says habu. I agree, and if you were nearby, you would hear me humming the Battle Hymn of the Republic, as suggested (even tho it is, unlike Dixie, a Yankee song from the War of Northern Aggression, it is very much inspirational, and as sung by a massed choir is something near sublime).
