Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Feliz Navidad is like finger nails scraping on a chalkboard. All time worst. Hands down.

That song about Christmas in Hawaii by Bing Crosby is only marginally better.

Yes. There are many klunkers out there, bad songs . . . or good songs that have a terrible arrangement or are covered by a lesser talent.

Piers Morgan's quote is so typical of him. Christ could come back tomorrow and save all humanity and Piers would say "what took you so long?" I don't see anything about Trump that is "his bad side". Especially when you compare Trump to almost any Democrat in congress.

While I am not a churchgoer, I much prefer the religious-themed carols I grew up with to the secular dreck Christmas songs that monopolize the Muzak in the stores these days. May we not have, for example, religious-themed Christmas songs in a third or a half of the Muzak the stores subject us to?

We are told that religious-themed Christmas songs might offend someone. Did "they" ever stop to consider that many of us find the monopoly of secular dreck Christmas songs in the Muzak in the stores to also be offensive?

The choral arrangements of the religious-themed Christmas songs are often superb. For the most part, you can't say that about the secular dreck Christmas songs we are subjected to in the Muzak in the stores.

It should be every American's patriotic duty to be a traitor to Socialism.

Thankfully, America voted Trump, so we don't have to find what American socialists would do. There are numerous American examples, from the last four years. The history books of Russia, China etc. etc. are replete with examples of what socialists do to their enemies when they gain full control. They certainly have killed a lot of people.

There's an unspoken thought here. Americans have just watched 4 years of Joe Biden 'not being able to do it' and have speculated on who might be doing it, instead. The guesses range from Obama himself, to Obama's former White House staff, e.g. Valerie Jarrett et al, to some kind of shadow committee making unpopular-yet-consequential policy choices behind closed doors. Maybe Americans decided they are tired of being led by the unfriendly un-elected. Maybe they decided they wanted somebody that was in charge, for a change. There's little doubt that Trump is the owner of Trump's policies.

Advent, also known as the Protestant Christmas season. It begins the day after Thanksgiving and ends at bedtime on December 25th. Tradition holds that it's bad luck to keep your Protestant Christmas lights up past New Year's Day.

In my part of the country most people are not familiar with the word Advent.

Here in mostly Catholic South Texas, we keep the tree and lights up until the first Sunday after Epiphany. Take down the decorations, pack 'em up, and have a big slab of King Cake as a reward.
