We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Finally found the source of that pic: Waits River in Vermont. Maybe I'll stop by - I could use some new daytrips.

Every year since I was a kid in the 40's There have been these huge winter storms that come through and dump feet of snow. And every time it happens the news calls it an unprecedented Winter storm and shows some reporter standing in a drift with a yard stick. And so this year is no different as the talking heads tell us again that this storm is unprecedented and no one has ever seen such a storm. I don't know if the media doesn't actually remember the previous storms or if they do and are so good at their job that they can breathlessly report this common occurrence as though it never happened before.

I've done my time over the years with the Outdoor Gourmet pot sitting on a small burner hooked to a propane tank and I've tried the Charbroil infrared turkey "fryer". All outside which presents the expected problems related to weather. This year I went soft and did the Masterbuilt Turkey Fryer and it was a gamechanger - even with the 17.4 pound bird. I was able to do it inside which is huge to get the oil to temperature and keep it there. Clean up was done in a few minutes - after the oil cooled and drained through the convenient spout. Not one for "advertising" but it worked as advertised.
