Aaron Bady's essay on parenting is asinine. He thinks children are punishment. The fact that the birth rate is below replacement (everywhere in every society that is not sub-Saharan) shows that there is something seriously wrong in modern society. In Darwinian terms, any species going extinct (as is the present human condition) is maladapted to its environment.
The proximate cause in our current situation is that we keep young women in school during their peak reproductive years. The correlation between level of education and the number of children a women has is strongly negative. Women with Ph. D.'s seldom have children. For that reason, universities are called IQ shredders. Based on the correlation between reaction times and IQ, it has been argued that at least in the UK the average IQ has fallen by 15 points since the late 1800's, one point per decade. That is one full standard deviation. Since the downtrend starts before young women were usually sent to school, its not clear how this relates to "excess" schooling. World population generally follows the UN's low estimate, because that estimate uses actual fertility rates. The population should peak around 2030, or a little later, at about 8.5 billion, and then decline steadily throughout the remainder of this century. The decline has already started in Japan, South Korea, Spain, Italy and other countries. There are abandoned villages in eastern Germany occupied by feral cats and wolves. Can you have a modern technological society when the population is decreasing and elderly? Birth rate per Education Level of Women. 61% of PHD prepared women in 2023. Might want to figure a different approach. Now it does not say the average of births, that may be lower.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/241519/birth-rate-by-educational-attainment-of-mother-in-the-united-states/ bob sykes: In Darwinian terms, any species going extinct (as is the present human condition) is maladapted to its environment.
As the human population continues to grow, it is clearly not going extinct. bob sykes: Based on the correlation between reaction times and IQ, it has been argued that at least in the UK the average IQ has fallen by 15 points since the late 1800's, one point per decade. The Flynn Effect is well established, and it shows that average IQs in the industrialized world increased through much of the 20th century. The current estimated global fertility rate is 2.25, below the replacement rate. The population growth is all due to longevity increases, which appear to have peeked and may actually be reversing currently. Once the median age rises above the optimal reproductive age for females, a region's population decline becomes nearly irreversible. Male testosterone levels and fertility are in rapid decline. Humans actually meet many of the biological criteria of be an endangered species.
The Reverse Flynn Effect is now a thing. Developed world IQs are in decline. James4HJ: The current estimated global fertility rate is 2.25, below the replacement rate.
Replacement rate is about 2.1. James4HJ: The Reverse Flynn Effect is now a thing. Developed world IQs are in decline. The decline isn’t universal, and the reasons aren’t yet clear and may be environmental (e.g. pollution). It still doesn’t unwind the overall increase in IQs, contrary to bob sykes’s claim. "The replacement rate is about 2.1." Heh. That is exactly how I thought you would respond.
The median approximate replacement rate for the richer developed world is 2.1. Replacement rate varies by region and culture depending on infant, child, adolescent, and young adult mortality rate and life expectancy. China's replacement rate is at least 2.2 officially. Effectively, it is higher because so high a % of its female population is at or above the age of significantly declining fertility and because the level of environmental pollution is so high it is causing significant fertility problems. The 2.3 global replacement rate is the low end of the estimates for the global population. I suspect it fails to adequately weight the population for countries in the developing world and undeveloped world that still have fairly low life expectancies and much higher mortality rates. "You waved your hands “over there somewhere”. I don't really feel the need to provide such evidence since I'm pretty sure you've already seen video of Harris (and maybe of Waltz and Clinton) explicitly advocating for censorship of political speech. And that you would waste time trying to explain how they didn't mean what they said, as is your general practice for dealing with inconvenient facts. "Did you just fall out of the coconut tree?" Since you're so big on offering evidence for one's positions, what is your alleged evidence that the women who work in Trump's campaign don't challenge him in private? If you've got inside information, do share. James4HJ: Replacement rate varies by region and culture depending on infant, child, adolescent, and young adult mortality rate and life expectancy.
Sure, but the replacement rate is falling in the developing world, where the fertility rate remains high. Keep in mind the claim at issue is the human “species is going extinct”. Rather what is happening is that the population of the developed world is contracting, while the population of the developing world, especially Africa, is expanding. That is not species extinction. See GBD 2021 Fertility and Forecasting Collaborators, Global fertility in 204 countries and territories, 1950–2021, with forecasts to 2100: a comprehensive demographic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021, The Lancet 2024. That doesn’t mean there are not impending demographic challenges, but the world population will probably still be very large into the next century, and human reproductive behavior is likely to continue to evolve. James4HJ: I don't really feel the need to provide such evidence You are under no obligation to defend your position. We just note that you haven’t. Guess you did just fall out of a coconut tree. Not your fault. Trump has a long history of attacking anyone who challenges him, including and especially those within his inner circle. It’s his nature.

It's a deeply dishonest treatment of a serious subject. Right off the bat, he conflates immigration's impact on the American population, when the discussion is centered on the historic aspects of American family structure, and compounds the problem by failing to delineate legal and illegal immigration population increases. It's treating a serious discussion of population stability and growth as journalistic persiflage. Fortunately I have hopes that American families are vested in having more kids. My own kids are having theirs now - and want to have at least 3 or 4 kids, which I find is very heartening.
The principle reason for the ongoing decline in IQ is reduced childhood mortality. The problem will ultimately correct itself, but it will be very messy. I'd recommend "The Genius Famine" by Dutton and Charlton.
DeGaulle: The principle reason for the ongoing decline in IQ is reduced childhood mortality.
Large and sustained reductions in childhood mortality in developed societies during the 20th century were accompanied by dramatic increases in IQs, seemingly contradicting your claim. re Boeing dismantles DEI department — joining major companies in scrapping controversial policy
It's hard for me to believe the DEI believers at Boeing have all been purged. I imagine that Boeing's HR department will carry on the DEI program as best they can. They just won't be so obvious about it. It'll be harder to hide when the planes start falling from the sky.
re It doesn’t matter if Trump or Harris win. Europe has already lost.
I agree that Europe is done, but I don't like the tone of his article. For example: QUOTE: One candidate is an admirer of Vladimir Putin . . . while . . .JD Vance, who equates deterrence of Russia with “warmongering,” QUOTE: (Trump) vows to end the Ukraine war the day after his election. while If Harris wins, the thinking goes, the White House will keep backing Ukraine but ultimately steer Kyiv toward a deal with Russia in the not-too-distant future. Go figure. Trump solution bad. Harris solution good. "Europe has already lost"
Two primary factors in Europe's pending demise: 1. Unfettered and unwise immigration both legal and illegal. This is no accident. It was implemented to destroy Europe. 2. Welfare, ever increasing welfare. This too is by intent. It appeals to base human weakness and destroys human's need to succeed and grow. It inevitably leads to selecting "rulers" who promise more free stuff and destruction of the ability to survive in this world. To escape the inevitable fate of collapse and revolution they must do two things: 1. Begin mass deportation of every third world immigrant immediately. No exceptions and including those who have gained the coveted "citizenship". 2. End welfare in all it's forms. They of course will do neither so they will fail soon in a terrible way. The U.S., Canada and Australia will soon follow. QUOTE: Saturday Miscellany: First, a few words from the seriously mentally challenged Kamala Harris: “Understand the difference here moving forward. Moving forward, understand the difference here. What we are looking at is a difference in this election. Let's move forward and see where we are.” I defy anyone to tell me what that means. Reacting to hecklers, Harris’s leading sentence is “We are here because we are fighting for democracy.” So, the meaning is clear. She is saying the fundamental issue is fighting for American democracy. She continues, “Democracy can be complicated, sometimes it's okay. We're fighting for the right for people to be heard and not jailed because they speak their mind. We know what's at stake.” QUOTE: Second, let us not ignore the idiocy of one Mark Cuban, who derides Trump for not being surrounded with strong, intelligent women-- when he says so in defense of a weak idiot. Evidently, you do not need to be smart to be rich. He was referring to women who actually challenge Trump. Nevertheless, Cuban apologized (something Trump never does, no matter how outrageous his bloviations). QUOTE: Fourth, Michelle Obama came out of hiding and tried to scare up some Kamala voters… Of course, there is no such thing as a ban on treatment under these circumstances. Such cases are being documented. Pregnancy is complicated and dangerous. From time immemorial, it has sometimes meant abortion to save the mother’s life or health. Not taking action until the fetus is dead can mean sepsis and death for the mother. Sorry the world is more complicated than allowed in a black-and-white world. QUOTE: Fifth, after calling Trump supporters garbage, and having his staff and his flunkies lie about it, Joe Biden Geez, this is the same guy who wore a MAGA hat to show his lack of animosity towards Trump supporters. It’s clear that Biden stuttered and didn’t mean to insult the entirety of Trump supporters, but just those making racist comments at the MSG rally. "We're fighting for the right for people to be heard and not jailed because they speak their mind. We know what's at stake.” Huh. Harris and Waltz are both publicly on the record advocating for government prohibitions of political expression by US citizens. As is Hillary and John Kerry.
"He was referring to women who actually challenge Trump." Neither you or Cuban have any basis for claiming that the women who work for Trump do not challenge him. Both you and Cuban or either liars or idiots. I'm willing to go with both. "Cuban apologized." He did not. He said he was sorry that people got offended, not that he was wrong or shouldn't have said what he said. James4HJ: Harris and Waltz are both publicly on the record advocating for government prohibitions of political expression by US citizens.
Note we provided a specific example of Harris advocating for free speech. You waved your hands “over there somewhere”. James4HJ: Neither you or Cuban have any basis for claiming that the women who work for Trump do not challenge him. You just fall out of a coconut tree? James4HJ: He said he was sorry that people got offended, not that he was wrong or shouldn't have said what he said. Cuban issued an apology and clarified his meaning (something Trump never does, no matter how outrageous his bloviations). Harris must lie, just as every pro-communist politicians must lie to get elected. Everything she says is a lie. If she says she is "pro-democracy" what that means is she opposes democracy but recognizes that the truth cannot be spoken. If she says she is for free speech, she lies and she cannot survive if free speech is allowed. She is a classic puppet communist dictator wannabe speaking classic communist dictator wannabe "speak". She, her Kenyan puppeteer, is hoping that most Democrats are useful idiots. Sadly, most are.
OneGuy: Harris must lie, just as every pro-communist politicians must lie to get elected.
What is your evidence that Harris is a communist? And what do you consider communism? Marxism? Communism is Marxism/socialism by force. It is implemented by chaos, propaganda by controlling the media and class warfare.
Democrats in America today are Marxist/socialist. They create chaos, class warfare and they control the media. The Democrats have militarized the ATF, the IRS and have just passed a law allowing them to use deadly military force against Americans... Classic communism! Watch for SWAT teams at your door at 5:00 AM with CNN cameras and reporters OneGuy: Communism is Marxism/socialism by force.
That’s a bit backwards. Communism as a general philosophy doesn’t entail force, but advocates for an egalitarian society. Marxism envisions violent revolution, then a period of dictatorship of the proletariat, followed by a withering of the state, leaving a classless, moneyless society of perfect social and economic equality. There are lots of non-Marxist doctrines that entail force, so leaving out the egalitarian nature of communism, leaves your definition woefully incomplete. Indeed, the rule of law itself entails force, so force applies to all governments. What we are left with is “communism” in your reckoning is any government you don’t like. "Communism as a general philosophy doesn’t entail force"

You had suggested that communism is a subset of Marxism/socialism. Rather, Marxism is a subset of communism. For instance, a hippie commune run by consensus is a form of communism, but it is not Marxist. So, your claim that Harris is a communist fails even before any evidence because you misuse the word itself. What we are left with is “communism” in your reckoning is any government you don’t like.

A woman who didn't get a single primary vote as a presidential candidate, installed as nominee of a major party by three people, lecturing the twits on "Democracy". Who celebrates that her opponent was charged with felonies not a single other citizen would have been or ever will be charged with under the same circumstances, and convicted with the help of one of the top officials at the DOJ overseen by her administration, who was sent to work for the local DA who brought the extraordinary charges. And resident twit Zachie-poo eats it up. But it's "complicated", I suppose. "It’s clear that Biden stuttered and didn’t mean to insult the entirety of Trump supporters, but just those making racist comments at the MSG rally." It might be clear on Planet Twit--to everyone else it was yet another examples of Biden's nastiness and it was clear it was another "deplorables" moment. Hell, even the Whitehouse staff knew it and tried to clean it up by playing magic apostrophe (you might have to look that word up, Pookie-boy. It's got more than 2 syllables). SK: Awoman who didn't get a single primary vote as a presidential candidate, installed as nominee of a major party by three people
Democratic nominees are elected by delegates, of which she won a large majority. How did you think it worked? SK: even the Whitehouse staff knew it and tried to clean it up by playing magic apostrophe You do realize there is no phonetic difference between “supporters” and “supporter’s”? the latter supported by his use of the singular “his”. Biden also clarified his remarks (something Trump never does, no matter how outrageous his bloviations). Stop changing the subject to suit your flawed argument, little buddy! As I said, not a single primary vote for president from any citizen of this country. Not one, ever.
As to your other ridiculous defense of the indefensible, the head of the Whitehouse stenographers office, in an email regarding the admin altering the record of what Biden said by adding an apostrophe everyone knew wasn't there, called it: “a breach of protocol and spoliation of transcript integrity between the Stenography and Press Offices." Further writing: “If there is a difference in interpretation, the Press Office may choose to withhold the transcript but cannot edit it independently.” Happy to help clarify all this for you! Now old Joe wants to smack MAGA men in the ass! Your job, should you choose to accept it--figure out how inserting a phantom punctuation mark helps clean THAT one up. SK: As I said, not a single primary vote for president from any citizen of this country.
That’s correct. Harris didn’t run in the primary for president—Biden did. When Biden dropped out, his delegates were released, and he endorsed Harris, so most of his delegates voted for Harris. Primary voters do not directly determine the nominee, the delegates do. Some delegates are elected in primaries, some are determined through caucuses, and some are selected by party leaders. You do understand that the Democratic Party is essentially a private club, and that they make their own rules, rules which were established well in advance. The Democratic Party seems highly pleased with Harris as their nominee. Again, how did you think it worked? SK (quoting): “a breach of protocol and spoliation of transcript integrity between the Stenography and Press Offices." The protocol was to confer with the supervisor of the stenographers office, but the supervisor wasn’t immediately available. Regardless, the supervisor did not comment on the validity of the actual edit. Biden clarified his remarks, and as noted above, it is out of character for him to blame the voters. That’s why his stuttered response has had little currency outside the MAGA-sphere. Not one single vote. Not one. Ever. And Biden is clearly not happy about being cast aside.
The supervisor's email speaks for itself--it was plain that he felt the statement should not have been altered. ..."spoliation of transcript integrity" is pretty clear. Read it slow. Sound it out if you must, and think about the meaning of the word "transcript" and how he used it. Look it up if you have to. Maybe you should actually listen to Biden saying it. Clearly you haven't heard it or...what am I saying, you'll defend anything these people do, no matter how blatantly dishonest. SK: Not one single vote.
Harris received 4,567 Democratic Party delegate votes, or nearly unanimous. Again, how did you think it worked? Meanwhile, she has almost certainly received millions of votes in the general election. Do you understand that the Democratic Party is a private organization? They make their own rules. SK: The supervisor's email speaks for itself--it was plain that he felt the statement should not have been altered
Agreed. Protocol should have been followed—even in the heat of the impending election. So, you apparently reject the so-called unitary executive theory of government. SK: Maybe you should actually listen to Biden saying it. We did. It could be interpreted either way; but from Biden’s history, it’s clear he was just upset at the speaker. People know Joe, the guy who donned a MAGA hat to make a friendly connection with a Trump supporter, which is why the gaffe has so little currency outside the right-wing echochamber. If Harris was fighting for democracy she would have led the effort to remove Joe Biden as he was unable to fill the leadership role of president using the 25th amendment. Then she would have replaced him. As it is, Joe is still pretending to be president and Harris is pretending to be VP.
A secret document prosecutor found him incompetent to face charges and proceeded no further. Not a single democrat moved to have Joe replaced a president. Harris continued campaigning. Who the hell is actually running the executive branch of government? Whatever it is, it is NOT a democracy. Who is running the Executive Branch?
Soros. And Xi. As long as the "10% for the big guy" keeps comin' in! This small town has been taken over by a very liberal group. They own/operate the university, the city council, the local paper, etc.
Here in MT the democrats are desperate to keep the senate seat and to replace our congressman with a female. The adds are horrific--they have even used rattlesnakes. One ad has the female renting a B&B owned by our congressman and going through the apartment bouncing on the bed, showing how cheap the mattress is, etc. All of this in a political advertisement. However, today was the worst. Most people here receive the local paper by an e edition (online). This morning when I tried to open the city newspaper I could not get past a long list of ads attacking the candidate for the senate--a young Navy seal they accuse of everything possible. The problem was I did not have a morning paper--i had pages of advertisement demeaning this man. Finally after several hours the paper showed up with some local news. The intent was clear. The integrity and lack of ethics of the newspaper was clear. They will stop at nothing. So, if we do win--what happens next? $467 million is being spent on the Ohio Senate race! Who in the hell is bankrolling this and why don't we know the answer to that? Is it even Americans bankrolling the race? Our country is being bought and sold on the world market while the same people flood this country with replacement voters from third world countries. This is the destruction of America being planned and executed right in front of us.
