Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Harris is grossly incompetent. Her presidency would be a disaster. We would all have to be massively stupid of suicidal to elect her. All of which makes it more likely she will be our next president. Our country and for that matter the entire West; Europe, Canada and Australia, seem to have become incredibly stupid and suicidal. The future will be one of regional wars and civil wars until each of the democratic nations are toppled. All the while our leaders and talking heads will be gaslighting us and at the same time jailing anyone who speaks truth. Good luck everyone, see you on the other side. It's been a good run but I don't see a way out of this fate. If you have any doubt of the truth of this than talk to one of your liberal left leaning friends about the election issues, Harris and Trump. I mean really talk to them, press the issues, say what you are really thinking not what is politically correct or safe. Invest an hour, if you can last that long, with a Harris voter. Then, tell me it will be fine.
The story of Hurricane Helene is incredible:
On Sep 26 Helene makes landfall. On Sep 27 Helene devastates North Carolina. On Sep 28 ... On Sep 29 ... On Sep 30 ... On Oct 1 ... On Oct 2 Biden/Harris mobilize military to help On Oct 3 500 soldiers mobilized On Oct 4 ... On Oct 5 500 more soldiers are mobilized for search and rescue. On Oct 6 the media wakes up to the fact that government agencies have done nothing while thousands of civilians have been working for the last ten days to help the people of Appalachia and save lives. Still nothing from FEMA!!! On Oct 7 FEMA surfaces and their great plan is ... well no plan they spent all their money on free stuff for illegal aliens. On Oct 8 FEMA has a press conference and angrily tells Americans to stop their bitching it makes them feel bad to tell them that they are incompetent. Still no FEMA in the field. On Ocy 9 More federal sturm and drang at press conferences but doing nothing for the victims of Helene. Anon: The story of Hurricane Helene is incredible
Federal troops can't be deployed until the state requests the help. Biden immediately approved Governor Cooper’s Request for Active-Duty Military Personnel and Equipment for Western North Carolina. Anon: On October 2, just like (a different) Anon said
That's right. Biden was right on top of things. As soon as the federal troops were requested, Biden approved the deployment—exactly how it should work. You don't know the first fucking thing that happened in NC. You only know what the media has told you. You are literally linking to the (democratic) governor's website. Of course he's going to praise Biden. You are dumber than a brick. Shut the hell up.
That’s 5-6 days that it took the governor to respond. Governor Abbott of Texas took 3 days to activate the entire Texas NG in 2017 when Harvey hit. But you keep your lips right where you like them, firmly on Biden’s buttocks.
And why did the Democratic governor wait so long to ask for help for a Republican portion of his state?
Anon: That’s 5-6 days that it took the governor to respond.
JLawson: And why did the Democratic governor wait so long to ask for help for a Republican portion of his state? Governor Cooper pre-deployed the North Carolina National Guard, asking for and receiving a Federal Emergency Declaration on September 26. more than 5,500 National Guardsmen from 11 states continue to support Hurricane Helene response missions. Then, immediately upon the Governor’s request, Biden sent federal troops. 5 days, dipshit. Apparently Quibble-DickZ has trouble with the actual time-line of events .
STFU and go away. . You're annoying the adults. Walter Cronkite was not some venerable, objective journalist. He was as much as political hack as they are today.
I remember Walter Cronkite well. I enlisted in 1964 and hearing first hand and second hand what was going on in Vietnam and watching Cronkite report on it was like living in two different realities. He was like a father figure, believable and no nonsense and yet he lied as much as the MSM does today. I remember when Ted Turner bought CNN and I thought that they were reasonably truthful but that changed quickly and the eventually went so far left that nothing they reported was true. I remember when FOX started up, good reporting, honest personalities and I'm not sure when they turned away from honest reporting but firing Tucker was the last straw. Now there is truth, uncomfortable truth on the internet and there is propaganda and outright bullshit too. Good luck discerning one from the other. Watch Tucker's YouTube channel. Can't say it will be 100% true but my gut tells me he tries to find the truth and report it.
MSM has always been about theater. Walter Duranty of the New York Times ignoring famine in the old soviet union. The yellow journalism of Hearst newspapers. Add in the Dan Rathers and the current crop of Madows, MSNBC and CNN and find there is little news and much bluster for attention.
QUOTE: The Fallout at CBS Continues- At the home of Walter Cronkite, journalists debate Israel’s existence. Also: Hurricane Milton. Are we overmedicating kids? Will Ferrell’s new doc. And much more: Should link to here. The CNN stereotype that Democratic women, being less traditional, are less comfortable with the idea of Trump as protector...then why do they keep voting for Government As Protector politicians?
Well, that's actually accurate. They do want a government protector, they just can't admit it out loud. They want society as protector, through the government, but don't want society judging them in any way. They still want to sleep with their boyfriends (or girlfriends), but be able to metaphorically live at home like a teenage daughter their whole lives. The most submissive (ha!) tradwives have more self reliance than this crew There are too many that wish for a provider as well as a protector in the form of government. They will shed as much responsibility as possible to live as "independent and strong women".
Vermont fossil fuel shakedown... states are looking for a free ride at someone else's expense. Tobacco bucks gone? Not enough weed taxes available? Can't get at the gun manufacturers?
Maybe its time to go back to 'all weather' outhouses if you can't afford the indoor variety infrastructure. FEMA is AWOL. Samaritan's Purse is doing FEMA's job. It would be interesting to know how many people are employed by FEMA and what their yearly personnel budget is. I'm thinking we should do what Musk did when he bought X and fire 80% of FEMA workers to improve productivity.
The problem with firing 80% of the FEMA workers is that there is some judge out there who will issue some sort of stay on it.
To quote Reagan: "Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth!” The churches have been the foremost providers of aid. Water, food, chainsaws, female products, toothbrushes, razors, gas, tree cutting crews,....it's the churches and businesses (building companies have been the biggest rebuilders of roads behind the DOT which has been doing a great job) that are doing that actual job of keeping people alive.
FEMA isn't AWOL and Samaritan's Purse isn't doing FEMA's job. Where do you come up with this stuff? FEMA isn't a first responder. Do you really want them to be? They aren't capable of it.
Some commenters seem surprised that churches, businesses, and local orgs are the ones taking care of business after disaster. Why? That's how it's supposed to happen. In an ideal situation there would be no FEMA, no federal tax money provided, and the unaffected states wouldn't be required to bail out the affected states. |
