Re: Biden’s Withdrawal Was Scripted Long Ago
Democrats are saying that Biden's withdrawal from the race was an act of patriotism and selflessness. I have a few questions: 1. What was the reason he quit the race? Because he was going to lose? Because he was infirm? 2. If he quit because he was going to lose, how is that patriotic and selfless? 3. If he quit because he was infirm, why is he still president? Wouldn't a patriotic infirm president resign so a mentally healthy person could take over? 4. If it was so selfless and patriotic to quit now, why didn't he do it earlier? mudbug: 1. What was the reason he quit the race? Because he was going to lose?
It's a matter of degree. Biden thought he could still win, but his chances were diminishing with defections within his own party. Some Democrats thought Biden could have a successful second term, but the optics were bad threatening his reelection and possibly dragging down Democrats in other races. Some Democrats thought Biden was capable today, but may not make it through a second term. mudbug: 2. If he quit because he was going to lose, how is that patriotic and selfless? Again, it's a matter of degree. See 1. mudbug: 3. If he quit because he was infirm, why is he still president? It's a matter of degree. Everyone slows down with age; however, Biden has shown remarkable resilience and political acumen over his term. His inevitable decline may not matter over the next few months, but the next few years may tell. mudbug: 4. If it was so selfless and patriotic to quit now, why didn't he do it earlier? Again, it's a matter of degree. See 3. Meanwhile . . . #5. It's a matter of degree. The shooter missed by a centimeter or so.
That was helpful. Do you really not understand that those kind of responses are viewed either as complete gibberish or as outright lies by 90% of the people that see them? They only serve to further damage your credibility.
What is this credibility you speak of?
Anyway, here is a worthwhile alternative to the bot’s verbal vomit: https://www.thenewneo.com/2024/07/25/bidens-speech-last-night-we-had-to-TV destroy-democracy-to-save-it (Sorry, the [url] tag isn’t working for me.) QUOTE: Neo: But what does it even mean to say that democracy itself must unite to protect truth? How can “democracy” unite, when people are at odds about whom they wish to elect? Biden: "And those of us who cherish that cause — cherish it so much — the cause of American democracy itself — must unite to protect it." In context and as is clear from his spoken word, it's those who cherish the cause of American democracy that must unite to protect it. Having misunderstood this salient point, Neo misunderstands the rest. QUOTE: Neo: Apparently “democracy” equals “Democrats.” As Erdogan of Turkey once said: “Democracy is like a tram. You ride it until you arrive at your destination, then you step off.” Trump said his destination was to be dictator on day one, while Biden cedes power to a new generation.

The one and only reason you are good to keep around is to demonstrate how utterly ridiculous the left's talking points are. Never fails to amuse.

The bot is, as always, being dishonest.
Bot: QUOTE: "And those of us who cherish that cause — cherish it so much — the cause of American democracy itself — must unite to protect it." Biden's full quote, from the provided link, is: QUOTE: And the truth, the sacred cause of this country, is larger than any one of us, and those of us who cherish that cause cherish it so much, a cause of American democracy itself must unite to protect it. (Emphasis added) You'd think AI would be smart enough to put ellipsis when truncating a direct quote. But then, that would expose the naked dishonesty. Neo's interpretation, not surprisingly, is the correct one. And because the bot is such a stickler for getting quotes correct, let's see what Trump actually said about being a dictator: QUOTE: "You are promising America tonight you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody?" Hannity said. "Except for Day One," Trump responded, repeating the phrase. Asked for clarification, Trump said, "I want to close the border, and I want to drill, drill, drill." Moments later, Trump doubled down on his comments. "I love this guy," Trump said, referring to Hannity. "He says, 'You’re not going to be a dictator, are you?' I said: 'No, no, no. Other than Day One.' We’re closing the border, and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling. After that, I’m not a dictator." In other words, as everyone with two brain cells to rub together understands, he will use executive orders on day one to protect and strengthen the country. Biden, of course, issued 17 executive orders on his first day, all designed to weaken and bring down the country, but that was somehow not seen as acting like a dictator.

QUOTE: Remarks by President Biden in Statement to the American People: “ And the truth, the sacred cause of this country is larger than any one of us. “And those of us who cheri[sh] that cause — cherish it so much — the cause of American democracy itself — must unite to protect it.” Notice the placement of the periods. There is also something called the Principle of Charity, which means interpreting a statement in a rational sense, rather than trying to bend it to justify a fallacious retort. Nameless: In other words, as everyone with two brain cells to rub together understands, he will use executive orders on day one to protect and strengthen the country. Trump was asked if he would be a dictator. Executive orders subject to law and judicial review does not a dictator make. Trump said explicitly he would be a dictator on day one. Do you know what they call a dictator on day one? A dictator.

Ah, so the Principle of Charity only applies to you, not to those you disagree with. Thanks for demonstrating that so clearly, hypocrite.

No. However, there’s no reasonable way to parse Trump’s explicit statement other than that he intends to be dictator on day one. The best you could argue is that he misspoke, but Hannity gave Trump multiple opportunities to say he didn’t intend to be a dictator.

And I've wasted far too much time on this.

Trump says his “beautiful Christians” can step off the tram after this election:
“You won’t have to do it anymore. Four years, it will be fixed, it will be fine. You won’t have to vote anymore. In four years, you won’t have to vote again.”

We’d be happy to extend the Principle of Charity, but saying Christians won’t have to vote again after this election has no interpretation consistent with democracy, which is a continuing process.

There are only two options here.
1) You’re too stupid to understand what Trump is actually saying here, or; 2) You understand him but are too dishonest to admit it. Which is it?

You suggested extending the Principle of Charity to Trump’s statement, but are unable to provide a more rational interpretation of his statement. As democracy is an ongoing process of civic engagement, it is not consistent with no longer having to vote. Even if Christians accomplished all their goals—given a democracy—those accomplishments can always be undone in the next election or by the next generation of voters. “One of the evils of democracy is you have to put up with the man you elect whether you want him or not. That’s why we call it democracy.” – Will Rogers

Trump clarified his statement: “This time vote, I’ll straighten out the country, you won’t have to vote anymore, I won’t need your vote.” So, our previous statement is still salient: As democracy is an ongoing process of civic engagement, it is not consistent with no longer having to vote. If Christians, or any other group, want to have their views politically represented, then they need to vote in future elections.

"His inevitable decline may not matter over the next few months."
LOL. It sure mattered when he got hammered in the debate! Wait a minute. The shooter has been tracked to have visited Martha's Vineyard. WTF. Who would he visit at Martha's Vineyard? Perhaps the 20 YO shooter was meeting with his investment advisor to check on his offshore accounts. How do you get an offshore account? I thought only criminals and fraudsters had those accounts? I know in the spy books that is how the "bad guys" pay off the assassin but other than that who has offshore accounts? Oh yeah Joe and his family have a couple dozen offshore accounts but that is for their many businesses that sell U.S. government information.
The Atlantic: JD Vance likes Mountain Dew
However, he has gone on record as NOT recommending it as a replacement for baby formula. re JD Vance
He was once a Trump hater. So . . . is he principled or is he simply an opportunist who will do and say whatever it takes to advance his own position? ...or is he a pragmatist who sees a Trump presidency as the best way to move his own policy preferences forward? My reading of Hillbilly Elegy suggests that JDV is NOT a hardcore ideologue.
Fair point, Mike.
I just have a bad feeling about this guy. I am afraid he will (politically) stab us all in the back at a critical hour. Whether it is out of pragmatism or opportunism, the result will be the same. I hope my fears are unfounded. I've been stabbed in the front so many times in the last 3 years that my back is feeling neglected. And it's not like anyone really cares what I (or you) think, anyway.
"...an act of self-sacrifice that places him in the company of George Washington.”
More like George Costanza. Guys,
I thought I'd drop this on you because NATO, and our ongoing subsidies to Europe, are foundational institutions underpinning the growth of American and European Socialism - you cannot drain the trans-Atlantic 'Swamp' without addressing them. Here goes: Title: Who is Containing Whom? It is said that NATO was designed to “keep Russia out, the Germans down, and America in [Europe]. I think this clichéd analysis is dead wrong. Instead, NATO cements Europe’s influence in America’s domestic and international decision-making, and its explicit anti-Russian orientation grants the Kremlin a permanent residence, "rent-free" in our constant deliberations. Functionally, the obligation hijacks American self-determination and effectively forecloses on our range of independent policy choices in a fast-changing world. in 2024, NATO is a straight jacket on the true, American motive in foreign and domestic affairs. Speaking for the same Atlanticists that failed to foresee WWI, Robert Kagan’s “Containment Theory” explained to Americans the reasons for our lashing to NATO and to her sister racket, The Marshal Plan, in this way: “If tax-payers will commit to enormous, perpetual capital flows to Western Europe, as well as to the maintenance of a fixed, protective military alliance, then Communism will not spread to Europe. ” 75 years later, it’s fair to question the sincerity of the Atlanticists’ promise. In 2024, the returns on our investment look bleak. We have paid the NATO Danegeld faithfully for 75 years, but we still got the Communism. Europe flipped to Communism in the ‘eighties, slowly at first and then all at once, under NATO’s dumb watch. France has elected only avowed Communist Presidents since Mitterrand. NATO member Canada, France’s ‘rump’ regime in Ottawa, has tacked in tandem with their Mother country, too. England cannot sustain a conservative Prime Minister and her capitol city is too riven with identity politics, Islam and globalist financial schemes to deliberate the nation’s interests responsibly. Germany is a proverbial watermelon: it hasn’t elected a Conservative Chancellor since the early 1990’s. Today in 2024, Berlin’s entrenched Red-Green coalition is criminalizing criticism of its immigration, climate, tax and vaccination policies. These are the “Democracies” that our State Department has been constructing under NATO’s cover on our behalf. This soviet model is what the Council on Foreign Relations means when they say “Our Democracy.” The threat implied in Kagan’s ultimatum now leaps into plain view: who is containing whom? Today, while NATO watches, the Russian Navy is navigating freely along the Florida coast and docking happily in Havana and Aruba. Her air force is overflying Alaskan cities; the Monroe Doctrine is murdered. Under NATO’s auspices, ‘loose cannon’ allies like Socialist France or Muslim Turkey, neither friends to American freedoms, have the whip-hand over America’s Congress, and can embroil us in capricious, foreign wars. Our Congress, which is solely charged with the responsibility of declaring American Wars, can only sit on its thumbs and watch - like a hapless conductor on a run-away train. Foreign-owned media outlets inflame Americans’ domestic sensibilities daily with hoaxed crises to pump financial flows and prestige back to Europe, and elsewhere. Un-elected ‘stakeholders’ can pull from NATO’s stable of ‘experts,’ Ukrainian Admirals and deputized NGO’s to yell over American citizens’ voices in media whenever their agendas might come under public audit. American subsidies to European governments are fungible: they are ‘donated’ back to the Atlanticists’ public campaigns in North America, which include political ad campaigns. (Could the Tides Foundation, a prominent non-profit scold in American media culture, function without recycled State Department or NATO-adjacent grants?) Meanwhile America is importing Europe’s centralized social and economic policies, right down to Germany’s high taxes and regulatory burdens, with blatant efforts to impinge on Americans’ 1st and 2nd Amendments in the works, too. So, who is containing whom? It’s 2024, and it’s high time to flip Kagan’s ultimatum on its head. “Pay up or you’ll get the Communism,” he asserted to justify the explosive spending of Americans’ taxes on the Atlanticists’ expensive rackets. And so we paid up gullibly, but we got the Communism anyway. A serious audit paints a picture of a citizenry that has submitted en masse to a 70-year old terror hoax, “The Communism.” And we fell for it dumbly for nearly a century. What does it take to convince a Mark that he has been conned. I hope this essay will help others to realize the need for a change. |
