We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I think this is interesting...from Mark Perry at AEI:
The number of US breweries last year (12/31/2021) reached a new record high of 9,247, the greatest number of American beer makers going back to 1873 when the Brewers Association’s records start and there were 4,131 domestic breweries (see top chart above). Amazingly, the record brewery count in 2021 is almost a doubling of US breweries in just the last six years since 2015 when there were only 4,847 breweries, and more than four times the brewery count nine years ago of 2,252 in 2011.
The causes of this are:
Federal and state laws being changed specifically to make this possible and to cut red tape in intrastate sales.
A dissatisfaction with the major beer companies and their products.
Some elite-ness.
Changes in advertising and visibility thanks to the internet.
Just stopped at two different breweries in Oregon on a trip to the Evergreen Air and Space Museum. (And next door to the museum is a 747 that's been turned into a water park. Yeah, not something you expect to see...)
On this trip we've hit two really tasty breweries. The 'Crux Fermentation Project' in Bend, Oregon, and Santiam Brewing in Salem, Oregon.
I'm really glad to see all the microbreweries/eateries/pubs and the like springing up. Almost always the food will be excellent and the been really worth the time. They're usually more fun than stopping at one of the usual nationwide chains when travelling.
(I can also really recommend the B-17 Alliance museum at the airport there. They're attempting to restore a B-17 to flying condition that was on top of a gas station for roughly five decades. Don't know how successful they'll be, but I'll give 'em mad props for the attempt.)
