We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Is it required for therapists to report fantasies?

I sure hope not...the thousands of bartenders I've used as therapist for the past 50 years could keep the DOJ busy for infinity.

Therapists, and doctors, are caught between a rock and a hard place. They are bound by confidentiality not to report a patient's condition, because they can lose their jobs and be sued if they do. On the other hand, sometimes they often hear things they should be able to tell the authorities, just in case. The problem with that is, the authorities also can't do anything meaningful until the patient actually commits a crime, and they can't watch them 24/7 either.

How common is it for kids in therapy to want to murder their parents? That would explain a lot of things.

As a teenager growing up in the late seventies and early eighties, I was pissed off at my parents plenty. Those idiots just didn’t understand anything. The thought never entered my head for them to be harmed. I surely didn’t want them dead at my own hands.

Now that they are both gone, I miss them terribly. I know now (actually, I understood that many decades ago) that I was in fact the idiot that didn’t know a thing.

I have to agree with Julie Burchill about the girl talk. I have always liked having girl friends and talking to them, but I also like men. I had a father, and uncles, and boy cousins that I adored, and I liked their inappropriate humor (because it was funny), and their can-do attitudes, and the fact that they made me feel safe. Every woman I've ever met who didn't like men was either a bitter divorcee who had been through a string of untrustworthy boyfriends, or a woman with daddy issues because she didn't have one.

I just read a very sad and very poignant article about a black father whose son was stopped by a white cop and when the cop asked to see the registration and proof of insurance the young man reached into the glove compartment for it and the cop shot him dead. No gun or weapon in the glove compartment or anywhere in the car just a dumb aggressive cop. The father, understandably was outraged and tried to get justice. The city and the courts denied him and the cop faced no charges or punishment. The father took a gun and went to the location of the local prom and when the cop's 17 YO daughter exited a vehicle to attend the prom he shot her dead. Put his gun down, said "an eye for an eye" and waited until the police arrived. I can't condone it but I can understand it.
