Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

" but there are plenty of downsides to a shrinking humanity as well" I was going to comment before I looked at the birth chart that groups of people that shouldn't be reproducing at a strong rate are the ones actually reproducing quicker. If a group can't take care of and give a good life to the children it produces it may be better for them to have a slower birth rate. As I see the DRC is showing the highest birth rate on the chart.
Haiti has been in chaos for decades. Every leader there used their power to become rich and then moved away or was exiled by the next leader. The best thing we could do for Haiti would be to give everyone who is not a gang member a gun and then seal off the island until most of them have finished killing each other. But, I suspect the U.S. will choose the stupidest "solution" and that is bring many of the criminal Haitians to the U.S. where they can prey on us.
Not everyone hates Daylight Savings Time. I know I prefer it, being the the easternmost part of the Eastern Time Zone. If we (and Maine) were to stay on DST year round it would be a blessing...or switch from Eastern Time Zone to the Atlantic Time Zone and remain in AST year round. The Eastern Time Zone is much wider than the other three time zones in the Continental US and as such means the easternmost part of the time zone extends well into the Atlantic time zone, This causes problems in winter particularly with some of us having to drive to and from work in the dark. Staying on EDT or AST year round means we'd actually have some sunlight later into the afternoon. (Where I live the sun disappears behind the hills to the west of my home as early as 2PM and the sun sets just a wee bit past 4pm.
Staying on EST means that in the summer the sun would be rising as early as 3:30AM (Cadillac Mountain in Maine) and around 4:30 AM where I live. Thanks, but no thanks. I prefer DST. Driving to work in the dark is much better than driving home in the dark.
I find that huge majorities of people would like the clock change shenanigans to end, or they are completely indifferent to it. But the government detests the people so much, that they won’t even do a simple thing like end the stupid time change business. I can’t even conceive how a politician can make money from changing the clocks back and forth. So why can’t they give us a win?
“Even the dog eats the crumbs that fall from the masters table.” - Canaanite woman Many people seem to have forgotten that year-round DST was tried and rejected in the 1970s. The main fact that caused it to be repealed was when several school children were killed waiting for the bus in the morning in the dark.
Until science comes up with a way to make more daylight in the winter at all latitudes, no time is going to suit everyone. But it seems to me that Standard Time is called that for a reason, and it would be best if we went back to year-round Standard Time for everyone. The biggest problem of the declining population of nations is sub-Saharan Africa which is growing and will continue to grow and then send its overpopulated quarter to our countries that suffer from pathological altruism and allow them to erase and replace us. Sub-Saharan Africa has no excuse even Bangladesh has reduced its population
I did not watch the Epstein Island pedo visitor reunion on TV Sunday night but I understand it was the least watched in it's history. No one knows why viewership is down but at least there were a lot of anti-Trump jokes and insults of the 81 million people who vote for Trump. But, again, the lack of viewers is a mystery maybe if we blame all the Trump voters for everything bad in the world more people will watch the pedo actors show.
Quit the whining about Daylight Savings Time and learn to adapt. Most of the complainers live in metro areas and rarely see the outside anyway.
My self-seting atomic clocks somewhat erratically set themselves for time changes, but my battery-powered alarm clock stays on standard time.
My atomic clock always resets itself 24 hours after the time change and I don't know why.
re DST
I never hear people grumble about the time change except for a few days around the event. I don't think it is that big a deal when all is said and done. I believe the benefits of the time change likely outweigh the few days of inconvenience in the spring and fall when people must adjust. In comparison to the other problems the nation faces, the time change dilemma is but a pimple on the face of the moon. re Global Population Crash Isn't Sci-Fi Anymore. . . crowded but there are plenty of downsides to a shrinking humanity as well
There are advantages and disadvantages for everything. Having said that, human population can't go up forever. I believe that technology (robot automation in this case) will take care of the population problem the way it has since the cave days, so I'm not concerned about it at all. A smaller population (still numbered in the billions) is probably a good thing, at least for the natural world, but we will still be around thousands of years from now, so relax.
As for the Jan6 "riots", that was a Democrat/FBI clusterfark from the beginning. Capitol cop hysteric Michael Byrd shot Ashli Babbitt, which was in my view, manslaughter in the least and murder at worst. Say HIS name, and let no one forget who and what he is. We went from 'save the whales' to 'build the windmills'. Another time and a new academic/political fad.
VDH on the anti democratic Democratic left... there is a reason we should still be running mental asylums to keep the crazies off the street and out of DC. He is right about the new 'Harry Reid' SCOTUS. They were so spoiled by the FDR courts and decades of liberal courts that they can't deal with a non-legislating court now in session. Imagine their mental condition after a couple of decades. Bidens Gaza floating port plan. Easier to describe it as 'What can't go wrong'. Perhaps use it to move the Gazans to Yemen. Re the port: Yeah - we're looking at an Afghanistan replay there. Spend billions on making a port, then leave and watch it get wrecked.
Re 'Save The Whales' - it's an old play, but still valid. "We had to burn the village in order to save it" updates to "We had to spend billions to kill the whales in order to save the planet." Who cares about some big "fish". Now if it was a snail darter it would different story.
"It's a mammal! We HATE MAMMALS!"
"Dude, you're a mammal." "SO WHAT?! I HATE MYSELF!" "Yeah, we can tell." why not use the floating port to move the "wandering who" back to the Pale? Before the arrival of the eastern european zionists, relations between mizrahim and Palestinians were somewhat amicable and might well return to that state of affairs once the talmudic nut jobs return to their true ancestrial homes.
I don't think amicable describes the M.E. since about the 7th century AD.
I did not say amicable relations amongst the tribes of the M.E., I was very specific. Amicable relations between Palestinian natives and the Mizrahim-native Jews of Palestine.
Have you seen the pictures of the Spring Breakers? Interesting that almost all of them had to show legitimate picture ID to get there. Yet, Merrick Garland thinks requiring ID is racist. All of them will have to show an ID to buy alcohol. And many of them will have to show ID after they have been arrested and before they are hospitalized. BUT! Not to vote!
Your federal government keeps putting out jobs numbers that look pretty good. But it is all lies and misdirection. We have broken a record with the most Americans out of work ever. That's "Americans" not just people living in America. 107 million Americans are not working today. All of the wonderful jobs reports are illegal aliens AND H1B's taking American jobs. This is not accidental it was planned this way. But why? And why does the MSM cover it up? And why do all the bureaucrats willingly take part in this massive gas lighting of Americans? And perhaps most importantly, why do our Republicans in congress allow this and even take part in the gas lighting? What is their end game? Can't kick this can down the road forever.
