Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Local politicians and governments really don't like "citizen patrols" whether they are effective or not.
I can only assume that it is because they are concerned that these groups will prove themselves more effective at quenching crime than any of the government approaches (or lack thereof). Politicians are allergic to things that show their uselessness and incompetence. In most well ordered societies in history, the police showed up to protect the criminal from the citizenry, so they can have their day in court.
How the Gaza Ministry of Health Fakes Casualty Numbers....
The 'Gaza (anything)' fakes everything, is the way to approach this story, and others like it. I've become so accustomed to everything out of Gaza being a lie, that I now simply assume that it will be a lie before I begin reading or watching. It's the proper way to approach it, because lying is reflexive there. The first casualty in any conflict involving Gaza is always the truth. The most recent celebrated death of an 11 YP boy who they claim starved to death. The Palestinians have a long and treasured history of proudly lying about deaths and using it for [political purposes. I don't know how this child died but I would be will to bet good money that his mother weighs more than 200 lbs like most in Gaza. Compare that with photos of starving Africans from years past where all family members were grossly underweight. For an 11 YO boy to starve to death while all round him are big and energetically attacking others tells you something about the degree of misinformation in this story. I will say this in defense of this young man IF the story is true; that this is a terrible indictment on the adults who are obviously getting enough to eat. If in fact this child died from starvation while all those around him are fat, fully nourished and energetic enough to be out causing trouble than their society sucks!!
One would expect nothing but objective unvarnished truth in the pages of Tablet Magazine. Only informative unbiased reporting from ((Alana Newhouse)) and ((Abraham Wyner)) since they have no dog in this conflict . Moreover, we can take at face value Mr. Wyner's claim that "a sizeable fraction of UNRWA workers are affiliated with Hamas" , without citation and claims that "Some (UNRWA) workers were even exposed as having participated in the Oct 7 massacre.." No doubt some UNRWA people participated- some have put the number in the low teens. However, our intrepid author does not inform us how many work for UNRWA nor how many of the 30,000 some sympathize with Hamas, nor how many participated in the "massacre". We are told there were "some" and that is apparently enough to cast doubt upon the veracity of the genocidal casualty numbers emerging from Gaza.
Which means that it is probably more honest than anything from the mouth or pen or keyboard of a "journalist" today!
The Hartford article told nothing of the backstory. Why the need for the armed citizens patrol? There was this little nugget of liberal nonsense: "Our community has seen so much pain and trauma, and what we need is for those who love this city to do the hard work of healing that pain.”
Why is it that democrat run cities always have an excess of pain and trauma? I would suggest that democrats need to do the hard work of self-reflection. Begin to admit that it is policies that you support that bring so much trauma and pain. The evidence that your policies are terrible is overwhelming. Whether it is crime, and civics in general, the policies that democrats support, have been shown to be civilization killers. More government. More pain. More trauma. More destruction. More racism. More inequality. Less liberty. Less trust. "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." – Albert Einstein "The Hartford article told nothing of the backstory. Why the need for the armed citizens patrol?"
That seems to be a rather glaring omission. However... I'd be surprised if the reason turned out to be that someone was leaving chocolate mints on everybody's front porch. Ah, the North End. I am reminded of an elementary school friend who used to live in Hartford's North End. His family moved to the country because they were afraid that if they stayed in Hartford, he would turn into a gangster. ( "gangbanger" wasn't in use back then.)
This was 60 years ago. The polar bears are more resilient than the Earth Day climate grifters.
Ny and Cali battery storage... The price is something that rational people would not consider, however the placement on barges would make putting out the inevitable fires as easy as sinking the barge. Will the West defeat itself... Countries most often die from within and not from outside. They choke to death from their own political feces. The Gaza Ministry of Health is better known as Hamas. Any numbers they produce are for their own military advantages. I am privileged to be an American
I had a friend in college who told me that and it rubbed me the wrong way. Webster's defines privilege as [i]a right or immunity granted as a peculiar benefit, advantage, or favor[/] What "right or immunity" is "granted" to you that other citizens don't have? OTOH, you could make that argument for naturalized citizens or even POC in this country. The English language is a imprecise and if taken literally as spoken by most people it is confusing. With effort it can be very precise but rarely is that effort expended for that purpose. IMHO what a person means is more important than the words they may have used to express it. I love America, I am happy to be born in America, how lucky I am to have been born here some 80 years ago. I couldn't have asked for more. But if I expressed that feeling in some imprecise way; "I am privileged to be an American" and someone chooses to misconstrue that, I don't care.
My sadness comes from seeing the Democrats burn it all down so that they can rule over the ashes. I am sad for my children and grandchildren. For friends and family, and for all Americans even those who willingly or unwittingly participate in it's destruction. It will happen. The signs are all around us. I don't even think Trump can prevent it but he may delay it. The Schumer's and Pelosi's and the rest of the traitors have doomed us. The only unknowns are when and how. Will it take years, months weeks? Or will it take seconds in a blinding flash of light? Yes, I know! Too depressing to think about, probably just some kook rambling away! Oh how I wish that were true. I am privileged to be who I am and where I am. First, who I am by my birth (family, country) which was totally beyond my control. Second, where I am because my husband and I worked like dogs all our lives to get here. I like my privilege. If you don't, that's your problem.
